“Harlem Renaissance and Beyond” spans over 80 years of music with ties to and from this amazing period of African-American cultural and intellectual revival, including masterpieces by William Grant Still, Duke Ellington, Undine Smith Moore, and George Walker, and present-day composers Valerie Coleman and Jessie Montgomery.

A rising musical star from Philadelphia, conductor Na’Zir McFadden was recently appointed as Assistant Conductor and Community Ambassador for the Detroit Symphony. Na’Zir will lead and host two different opportunities to hear “Harlem Renaissance and Beyond,” one in an alternative, Harlem-based business in Bridesburg, the other at the African American Museum in Philadelphia.
