This Month's Production Tip:
Having Multiple Angles
The video above from Crimson Engine's Youtube channel provides an example of a two camera shoot.
Let's say you are getting ready to shoot an interview of one person talking. One way to break up the "talking head" (other than using b-roll) is to shoot the subject from two different angles. If you have a second camera available, set it up at least thirty degrees different from your primary camera. You can then cut into either camera in post production to break up the shot. This technique is also helpful for advancing your storyline editing. You can easily cut out lines of speech, or a few "umms", "hmms", and "Never mind, can I re-say that sentence?" to advance your video's story without having any unwanted jump cuts.

The video above shows a great example of a two camera shoot. This creators video is a bit on the advanced side, as he uses a slider. You can start with simply using two tripods, and work your way up to a slider as you become more advanced.

Thank you for reading and we hope to see you at WHCA or one of the two communities that we proudly serve. If you have any questions, please feel free to call us, as the WHCA staff looks forward to working with you!
