Dear Reader,

In this edition of your newsletter, you'll find updates on some of our flagship projects and curated links to material that we've found useful in our co-learning journeys. As an EdTech foundation, we're increasingly focused on much-needed digital and media literacy skills - in the boardroom, the lecture hall and the home. There's much that can be achieved by levering on the work of international communities of practice looking at the intersection of media, technology & lifelong learning.
GenZ MEDIA FREEDOMS PROJECT - LONDON CALLING
At the end of April, the two joint winners of the GenZ competition, Ian Farrugia and Claire De Battista, travelled to the UK for a week-long, London-based internship. In Ten things I learned from my GenZ Internship in London, Ian reflects on an intense week of workshops with the BBC, the Economist, VICE News, The Guardian, On Our Radar and Tortoise.

The GenZ project explores media freedoms and digital literacy from the perspectives of young people. Through internships, peer workshops and events, we are working to encourage the Generation Z cohort to find its voice on subjects such as misinformation and new media, and propose workable solutions fit for our times. To date, the GenZ Project has been supported by a grant from the British High Commission in Malta.

3CL & RESEARCH INSTITUTES OF SWEDEN (RISE) SIGN MOU
The 3CL Foundation has signed a cooperation agreement with the Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE), an independent, State-owned research institute and innovation partner. The agreement, which spans a three-year period, paves the way for the two entities to develop and share knowledge, as well as collaborate on initiatives in the Education, Research and Lifelong learning sectors. Both entities also share a keen interest in applied research and initiatives pertaining to digitalisation and emergent technologies for learning as well as skills development for professionals.
VRTEACHER DELIVERS FIRST OUTPUTS
We're half way through the VRTeacher Project implementation lifecycle. A milestone for the project will be the learning, teaching and training activity (LTTA) that will be held in Madrid, Spain, between the 20th and the 22nd June 2022. The LTTA will train the trainers in the new virtual reality environment to be used to train pre-service teachers in digital skills for class situations. In addition to the launch of the VR tool, the project has also developed a competence model framework for VR-based teacher training involving educators/teachers to promote the personal and professional development of teachers towards inclusive digital education.

Check out this recent article published in Frontiers, in which the authors carried out a Systematic Literature Review on the strategic planning of technology in primary and secondary schools from 2010 to 2021. A key takeaway of this SLR is that “the incorporation of technology in the classroom requires a redefinition of the organisational culture of schools”.
