Ey up <<First Name>>, how are you? |

I am a little shell-shocked this week after hearing the news that one of Yorkshire’s popular breweries, Kelham Island (Sheffield), is to close. Kelham Island played a big part of my “initiation” into drinking ale. I will fondly remember times enjoying ‘Riders on the Storm’, ‘Easy Rider’ and ‘Pale Rider’. My favourite, however, was seasonal special ‘Bete Noire’. |
Kelham Island cite trading difficulties from COVID and the current economic climate as the reason. They join Exe Valley (Devon), Fallen Brewing (Scotland) and Beatnikz Republic (Manchester) in announcing recent closures. This is not a good sign for the beer industry and as with all economic troubles, the first people and businesses to suffer are usually small independents. Please support your local, independent breweries. The best way you can do that is buying beers direct from the source, either in brewery taprooms on draught, or online shops. |

Welcome to new subscribers! This section is a news digest of happenings at Leeds-based breweries in the last 7 days. The newsletter is prepared on a Thursday, so any news that breweries release between the final draft and the email arriving in your inbox on a Friday, will be included in the next newsletter. If you want to find out more about a particular piece of news, click the word that is underlined and coloured blue. Finally, if you have seen some news online this week and it isn’t mentioned below, it means I have covered it in a previous issue, or there is not enough information for it to feature yet. |
| We begin today’s journey in Armley. Anthology have just announced they have brewed the house beer for Archive in Leeds. House Pale is a Citra, Cascade and Columbus hopped pale ale, at 4.1% ABV. |

| There are two new ‘uns this week from Kirkstall Brewery. First up is the return of Break Even. This is an American pale ale, fermented to 4.6% ABV and featuring Citra, Centennial, Simcoe and Amarillo hops. Next is Mango IPA a 5.5% ABV, ummm, mango IPA. As well as featuring mango, this has been hopped with Galaxy, Citra and Simcoe. |

| As Above, So Below is the latest from Meanwood. This is a 4.5% ABV cask east coast pale, brewed with Cascade and Mosaic (yum yum!) hops. |

| Fruit lovers rejoice as North Brewing’s latest Triple Fruited Gose is out now. This 4.5% ABV delight features rhubarb, blackberry and raspberry. A new IPA is here too, featuring Mosaic (yum yum!), Mystic and Moutere hops. Both of these beers were collaborated on with Ren Min (Singapore). Finally, be sure to check out GATTO. This is a 10% ABV imperial triple fruited sour cherry stout, brewed in collaboration with Beak Brewery (Lewes) as part of Cloudwater’s (Manchester) The Mashup project. |

| Death, or glory? To help you decide, Northern Monk have released two annual beers of the same name. Glory is a 10.5% ABV triple IPA, this time around made with Idaho 7, Citra, Strata, El Dorado and Cryo Pop hops. Death is a 12% ABV imperial stout in a glow-in-the-dark can. You really ought to read the Instagram tasting notes on this one. I mean it, go read! |

| No specifics on the new beer yet, but Sunbeam Ales have been getting creative in the brew house this week. It looks like a rhubarb blonde ale is coming our way. |

| If You’re Not Into Yoga then drink Pina Colada milkshake IPAs instead. Which is what this is! The latest 5.2% ABV beer from Truth Hurts. |

| And, finally. Fans of Yorkshire Pirlo 4.0% ABV blonde ale may be interested to know that this is now being brewed by Wilde Child. |
