The YSCF Youth Action Board Awarded 2 Grants
Thoughtfully Submitted by Melissa Heston, YSCF Outreach Manager & YAB Facilitator
The YAB (Youth Action Board) has awarded 2 grants for the 2021-2022 school year. The YAB is made up of 15 community junior and high school students who are passionate about solving community issues for youth and making the world a better place; a committee of the Foundation and local chapter of the national Youth Roots Program.
One grant was awarded to the Feminist Health Fund, who applied for funding of health and hygiene kits for youth. A second grant was awarded to Florence Randolph, the YSPD Community Outreach Coordinator, for her work serving youth and families with housing support and food support outside of the local food pantries.
As funds continue to be donated, they will be split 50/50 to each of these entities. The YSCF will be providing additional grant funding to increase our impact. Both of these programs will serve a large number of our community's youth and help them continue to thrive.
The 2022 YSCF Youth Action Board's area of focus was to provide support for the “Insecurity of Needs”—specifically housing, food, and hygiene products to youth of Yellow Springs and Miami Township. To this, the YAB has raised $4,000, including from special-event dinners at Chipotle and FlyBy BBQ, and they solicited funds from local Impact Partners who made a big difference in this year’s effort.
A Big Congratulations to our seniors on the board—Joaquin Espinosa & Carin Basora—and Student Co-Facilitators, Stella Lieff, Yanne Gilley, and Maddox Flatt!
