Vote for your favorites in the 63rd annual District Art Show

The 63rd Battle Ground Public Schools' District Art Show is now online and you can view the entire gallery of submissions and vote for your favorites to receive the inaugural People's Choice Award. The deadline to vote is Sunday, May 15. After a brief, pandemic-induced hiatus, judging will resume this year. In addition to the People’s Choice Award, voted on by citizens, winning students will receive the coveted Bob Peck Award, the Superintendent Award, the Board’s Choice Award, Best of Show, and juried awards. Winners will be announced at the May 23 Board of Directors meeting, 6:00 p.m. at the Lewisville campus and available to watch online.

BGPS receives 8th consecutive clean audit

For the eighth year in a row, Battle Ground Public Schools has received a clean audit from the Washington State Auditor’s Office. The audit covers the areas of accountability, financial statements and federal grant compliance for the district’s fiscal year, from Sept. 1, 2020 to Aug. 31, 2021. Auditors examined the district’s payroll, use of restricted funds such as local levy dollars, compliance with supplemental contracts for enrichment activities, open public meetings and financial condition.

“These audits take a lot of work, and getting a clean report isn’t easy,” said Superintendent Denny Waters. “Doing this eight years in a row demonstrates the commitment of our leadership team when it comes to being both efficient and transparent with public funds.”

To learn more about the audit process and other steps the district and its Board of Directors takes to ensure public funds are being used wisely, read the full story on the district website.

BGPS’ Board of Directors conducted a regular board meeting on Monday, May 9. Highlights are in this week's BG Board, Briefly. Archived video of board meetings is available on the district website. The next regular board meeting will be held on May 23 at 6:00 p.m.

School Nurse Appreciation Day

Wednesday, May 11 marked National School Nurse Appreciation Day. Far from just patching up scrapes, school nurses coordinate care plans for children with medical requirements, oversee the administration of prescribed medications, and support the educational process by improving the health and safety of our students. Thank you for all you do!

BGHS bands bring home awards at Mt Hood Jazz Festival
