Talking Trains 

 

Rail Futures Institute (RFI) members Frank Lander, Mark Williams and David Hardy, visited Mount Gambier this week to continue working with Regional Development Australia Limestone Coast (RDALC) on updating the economic benefits for the reinstatement of the Mount Gambier to Heywood rail line and proposed intermodal.

RDALC and RFI visited a number of businesses and met with industry to further explore the transport needs and opportunities in our region.

This week our CEO, David Wheaton facilitated the Regions Rising SA event where the Regional Australia Institute (RAI) launched its latest body of research, Building the Good Life: Foundations of Regional Housing. The report aims to inform and guide place-based initiatives to address the current housing pressures felt in many regions across Australia. 
Some great insights were delivered by keynote speakers RAI Chief Economist Dr Kim Houghton and the Minister for Regional Development, the Hon. Clare Scriven MLC. Case studies were also presented by panelists Kelly-Anne Saffin, Anne Champness, Robyn Verrall and Matthew Woodward.

Reminder: Leadership Program Planning Workshop


RDALC, in partnership with the State Government, are excited to deliver the Regional Leadership Development Program over the next two years. This important community based program will increase the diversity of our leadership pool, offer emerging leaders the opportunity to achieve their potential. Please join us for a workshop to plan the direction, priorities and governance for the program. 
 
The workshop will be held on 31 May 2022 at the City Hall Mount Gambier from 4:30pm – 7:30pm. For catering purposes, registration is essential, please register or find out more here.

Free Masterclass for Regional Small Businesses


As part of the Limestone Coast's Regional Innovation Festival, North of Zero, in collaboration with the Adelaide Business Hub and the Federal Government's Australian Small Business Advisory Service (ASBAS), are hosting a virtual masterclass titled "Growth starts from ideas".

Setting the right foundation for growth begins at the idea stage and without this product-market fit can sometimes feel unachievable. This session aims to help you clearly identify your business pain points, understand the brand you are building and teach you how to set funnels that can be optimised to achieve growth at all stages.

2022 National Economic Development Awards (EDA) for Excellence

 
Nominations are now open for these national awards - preparing a submission is simple and winning a prestigious EDA award is a great way to shine a spotlight on your innovative economic development projects and raise the profile of your work.

ARC Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities (LIEF) Scheme


Administered by the Australian Research Council (ARC), the program aims to provide funding for research infrastructure, equipment and facilities to eligible organisations.
 
The objectives of the scheme are to:
  • Support excellent basic and applied research and research training through the acquisition of research equipment and infrastructure and access to national and international research facilities.
  • Encourage eligible organisations to develop collaborative arrangements with other eligible organisations and/or partner organisations for the acquisition and use of research equipment and infrastructure or access to national and international facilities.

Tourism Australia – Advance Program


This program seeks to increase international visitation to Australia for the purposes of attending a business event, and to increase consideration of Australia as a business events destination.The program aims to delivers specific, measurable, and achievable marketing and distribution activity within a specified financial year that supports marketing or distribution activities that help to increase:
  • International visitation to confirmed business events being held in Australia.
  • Consideration of Australia by international business events decision makers and/or that help in the conversion of new business events but not related to a specific event.
The Australian Government’s trade and investment facilitation strategies are focused around the following priority areas:
  • Food and agribusiness
  • Advanced manufacturing
  • Infrastructure
  • Resources and energy
  • International health
  • Services & disruptive technologies

Business Events Bid Fund Program (BFP)

 
This program is designed to increase the conversion of bids for new international business events for Australia through the offer of financial support at the critical bidding stage. The BFP is designed to deliver conversion of new business in situations where Australia is bidding against international competitors for the right to host the business event.
