I give you a new commandment: love one another. John 13:31-35

It can be hard for us to hear the words of the gospel today – love one another as I have loved you. It is strange isn’t it?  We too often reserve love for the intimate relationship between a couple who are ‘in love’ or for domestic family love. You don’t hear politicians saying vote for me and I will love you. You don’t hear football coaches telling their teams – this afternoon I want you to get out there and love one another.

Let us pray... that those who have died may sit in glory at the feet of Christ, especially Peter Bladin, and that those whose anniversaries occur at this time might continue to know Gods love, particularly Helen Edmonds, Alice Green, Ethel Lilian Healy, Lucio Ilag, Marion McCormack, Florence McKay, Sarah Jade Meagher, Derek Milligan, Helen Mitchell, Eamonn O’Brien, See Gaik Eng and Ivor White.

  • SHWP Ladies Breakfast Group will meet this Saturday, 14 May at 9.00 am at the Boulevard Food Store. Contact Bridget Larkin on 0407 346 649 for further details or assistance with transport.

  • Men's Scripture Group will meet this Saturday, 14 May at 10.00 am in the Parish Meeting Room at Our Lady of Victories Presbytery.

  • Members of our Parish Life Teams will be commissioned at various Masses during the coming weeks.

  • Archdiocese of Melbourne's Annual Mass Count continues this weekend.  The information gathered from the count assists with pastoral planning activities.

  • Family Led Mass and Hospitality will take place this Sunday, 15 May in the Gathering Space following 10.30 am Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.  All parishioners are welcome.

  • Wattle Park Social Group invites parishioners to join them for a meal and a chat at the Shoppingtown Hotel, Doncaster, this Sunday, 15 May at 6.30 pm. RSVP to Frances Scott or Rose Marie Prosser.

  • Kitty Craft Group will meet this Monday, 16 May at 1.30 pm in the Barnsbury Club House.  All welcome, contact Barbara Arbon for further information.

  • Rite of Christian Initiation in Adults (RCIA) will meet this Tuesday, 17 May in the Gathering Space at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.  Anyone interested in learning more about the Catholic faith or to review their faith are welcome to attend.
  • Encompass Youth Social Event - a Movie Night will take place on Thursday, 19 May from 6.30 pm.  For further information contact Sophie Zebrowski.

  • Friendship Group Morning Tea will take place this Friday, 20 May in the Gathering Space following 9.15 am Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.

  • Faith and Life Questions Group will meet on Monday, 23 May at 4.00 pm in the Meeting Room at Our Holy Redeemer Church to discuss The Theory of Evolution and the Biblical Story.  Please contact Rose Marie Prosser for further information or to receive the pre-reading material.

  • Upcoming event:  Sr Mary McInerney, a Sister of Our Lady of the Missions, will lead a Pentecost Discussion Group at Our Lady's Wattle Park on Wednesday, 8, 15 & 22 June from 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm.  Further details available at the beginning of June.

  • Bottle Tops Urgently Needed: Give your plastic lids a second life by donating them to OLGC Primary School for a collaborative art work to be completed later in the year. Suitable lids include milk bottle tops, colourful yoghurt lids, lids from spreads such as vegemite. Lids should be washed, clean and free from any food particles. The school require LOTS of lids so start collecting, and when you have enough drop them at the school reception, 12 Whitehorse Road, Deepdene.

  • Propagation of Faith Appeal will take place next weekend with a special collection being taken up at all Masses.  Appeal envelopes will be available in all Churches.
