These two brown bears were just busy doin' important bear stuff near the boat at anchor on our last trip.

We love nothing more than showing off Alaska to someone for the first time. It is even more fun to show old friends. Our good college friend Clay was about 30 years overdue for a visit, and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring with him from Petersburg to Sitka. the smile says it all. We have no doubt he will be back soon. Haines friends Chris and Greg also joined us for some steelhead fishing and general goofing off.

The fishing was good and lots of wild critters have made their way back to Alaska for the summer. Sitka Sound is seeing an annual return of 20-30 grey whales that we've seen scraping the rocks and kelp of herring eggs. The Steller sealions seem to have found plenty of fish to fatten up on, and Dall's porpoises riding the bow wake are always a big treat.

We have two trips needing folks this summer and would love to sail with you. The first trip - Aug 15-20 - goes Petersburg to Juneau with double the hot springs! We plan to hit both Tenakee Hot Springs and Warm Springs Bay. Or we might go up and see the glaciers in Endicott Arm. Your choice. Contact us for rates and more information.

UPDATE ON "OUR" WHALE

We successfully named a humpback whale to honor Professor Jan Straley of the University of Alaska Southeast Whale Lab. We were the first to photograph "Otis" last fall, and we are thrilled to give here the official naming certificate at her retirement party. We are also excited to be donating 1% of our 2022 proceeds to this worthy research laboratory. Congratulations Jan - and thank you for your work to protect Alaska's whales, and for inspiring us in so many ways!
