Update: COVID outbreaks in communities
There are currently 548 Aboriginal South Australians with active COVID-19 infections. A total of 13,712 Aboriginal people have had COVID-19 infections since the border opened in November, 2021.

Update: Vaccination rates for the Aboriginal population

The latest data for South Australia shows just over 80% of the state’s Aboriginal population aged 12 years and older has had their first dose, and 74% have had their second dose.
Over 37% of 5 to 11 year-olds have had their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 21% have had their second dose.
If you haven’t had your COVID-19 vaccine yet and would like to ask questions and get vaccinated, clinics are still open.

Changes to recommended time between dose 1 and dose 2 of Pfizer and Moderna
|
|
The recommended time between the dose 1 and dose 2 of Pfizer and Moderna has now changed to 8 weeks (instead of 3 - 4 weeks).
The longer time between doses will help your immune system respond better to the vaccine.
If you need to catch up on any missed doses of COVID-19 vaccine, bookings and walk-in appointments are available.

COVID-19 vaccine ‘Winter Dose’
|
|
Ahead of the colder months, when colds and the flu become common, it is recommended for vulnerable people to have an extra winter dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, this includes:
- people aged 16 years and over who are immunocompromised, and
- Aboriginal people aged 50 years and older.
This is to increase the level of immunity for vulnerable people to as close as possible to the general population.
The winter dose can be given at least four months after people have had their booster dose.
For immunocompromised people aged 16 years and older, the winter dose is the 5th dose, given at least 4 months after the 4th dose (booster).
For Aboriginal people aged 50 years and older, the winter dose is the 4th dose, given at least 4 months after the 3rd dose (booster).
If you have had the COVID-19 booster dose and then had COVID-19, it’s recommended you have the Winter dose at least 3 months after recovering.

If you have COVID-19, how long should you wait until you get the COVID-19 vaccine?
|
|
The best protection from catching COVID again, spreading COVID, or ending up in hospital is to keep up to date with your COVID-19 vaccines, even if you have already had COVID-19.
If you have had COVID-19, it is now recommended to wait 3 months before having your next dose (including your third dose or winter dose).
This will allow your immune system to respond better and protect you for longer from catching COVID-19 again.
If it is time for you to have your next COVID-19 vaccination, and more than 3 months has passed since you had COVID-19, get up to date with your vaccinations now.
