Visiting Pour Parish Family!

A Visit with Bobette Watson

Bobette is St. Patrick's most senior member and has a great love for the church and the people in it. Health issues and Covid have deprived her of attending services in person and she had been an avid Zoom participant until recently.
She received a visit and a goodie gift box this week from Stephanie Chapralis McCaffrey who was delighted to visit in person for the first time in a long time.
Bobette was happy to share a visit, and conversation ranged from talking about her family (daughter, Laddie, and son, Rob), to church memories, and her regard for the people at St. Pat's. When asked what message she has for her friends at church she enthused, "Tell them I love them all!"...classic Bobette!
A visit with Connie Van Loben Sels

Connie Van Loben Sels was ready and waiting for her visit on the patio next to the beautiful garden at the Green Acres Manor Residential Care Home where she has resided the last year.
Connie enthusiastically welcomed visitor, Stephanie Chapralis McCaffrey, and had a wide ranging conversation on Connie's life, her dear St. Patrick's church, gardening (a passion), and the art of needlework.
Connie appears fit, healthy, and is ready for visits now that visits are allowed (outside) at Green Acres. She asked to share her regards for her church family and hopes that all are doing well.
A caring community
In our parish we have several church family members like Bobette and Connie, who are unable to physically attend church due to age, or infirmity, and other reasons. Some are able to "attend" church through Zoom and others are not.
Those who are not able to use Zoom really appreciate hearing about, and from, their church friends, and receiving cards, phone calls, and having visits from the people at St. Patrick's.
There are several parishioners who fill this need including the Circle of Care Ministry (Eucharistic Visitors and Eucharistic Ministers); the Telecare Ministry of the Vestry, and many individual parishioners who, without fanfare, visit, transport, and assist those parish family members who are home bound. We follow Christ's teachings to care for one another.

Thank you Mohammed Jabbari for the wonderful presentation last Sunday on United In Kindness and being an immigrant to the United States from Iran. Moe’s personal story and colorful slides as well as his message on the need for kindness in all our interactions were messages so important to all our lives. We are blessed to have such a good friend and Moe will be back for a discussion on Islam.

Cranes for Ukraine
Making paper cranes (symbol of peace) with the Japanese American Citizens League and the United in Kindness is in the works. This would be after a Sunday Church service with several JACL members joining and teaching us. We are encouraging donations for Ukraine. The date will be announced soon.
The film Mission Joy with the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu: Finding Happiness in Troubles Times will be shown on Thursday, June 23 at 5:30 at St. Patrick’s in Stevenson Hall. The film is free and open to all in the community. Bring family and friends – popcorn and more!!!
The Art of Needlework at St Patrick's
During our church services it is part of our observance to kneel in prayer (as we are able). We have done this so many times over the years that it almost becomes a reflexive action.
Yet have you ever stopped to take a second look at what is beneath you?
Our church is possessed of an amazing set of kneelers, scores of kneelers, all the handwork of talented needle workers who were members of St. Patrick's.
Most kneelers are comprised of a simple gross stitch border but over two dozen kneelers have complex and beautifully rendered renditions of religious symbols or Bible scenes such as the stunning, "Three Wise Men" pictured above.
Are you curious about the history of this priceless treasure of our church, and perhaps would like to view them all?
Stay tuned as The Education Ministry includes this, and other interesting aspects of our church in upcoming lectures!
The Education committee is open to all who are interested. The agenda and minutes are available from the church office. Email Laurie Boone Hogen if you want to attend any meetings or have suggestions

BLESSING BAG NEWS
In April St. Patrick’s and the Kenwood Community Church donated more than 45 Blessing Bags to the Redwood Gospel Mission. That’s at least 45 people who didn’t go to bed hungry! We can make a difference right here in our community and it is not all that difficult to do. If you’ve forgotten how to make up a Blessing Bag please look for the sample in the narthex and a list of contents on a short sheet of paper. You can always call me on my cell phone (408)981-2024 or send me an email at Rjurny@gmail.com.
The next delivery to Redwood Gospel Mission will be later than usual due to our travel plans for May. We’ll deliver Blessing Bags after May 22. You are welcome to leave them in the church narthex in the white box or drop them off on our house, 8399 Oakmont Dr. the week of May 16-21. You may bring them to church on May 22 too.
Let’s keep up the good work. There are so many homeless and hungry people we can help in this simple way. We never know whose life we may change with this simple meal and words of encouragement. We may not be a big congregation, but we certainly have big hearts and we’re willing to help. Thank you everyone at St. Pat’s and the KCC!

Fellowship Hosts and Hostesses
|
|
|
Fellowship is offered following each Sunday service. Visitors are encouraged to join us in Stevenson Hall or on the patio as we visit and enjoy refreshments.
Simple drinks (coffee and tea) and food (something sweet, fruit, and/or cheese and crackers) are provided by members of the parish. Two people work together to prepare, serve and clean. Instructions are posted in the kitchen explaining how to do everything! The goal is to have sixteen to eighteen people, so that one person serves once every two months, or only six times a year. Schedules are arranged in two month blocks.
Please consider being one of the hosts/hostesses. If you can help, please call Eleanor Albon @ 281-610-8043 or the church office @ 707-833-4228.

White Socks! White Socks!
|
|
|
We heard that there was a need for new white socks for people who go to the FISH Food Pantry to pick up food. Socks for men and women can be donated from our parishioners as they enter the narthex of our church. A barrel will be right inside the front door, in the left corner. Donations will be delivered monthly by any one of our St. Patrick's members, who volunteer at FISH in Santa Rosa.
In the past, St. Patrick's donated socks for people in need, and then came Covid! We are now back in business, and you have an opportunity to donate this coming Sunday!
It's a great day, when we can help someone put their best foot forward, in a new pair of socks!!

O God of peace, who has taught us that in returning and rest we shall be saved,
in quietness and in confidence shall be our strength: By the might of your
Spirit lift us, we pray you to your presence, where we may be still and know that you
are God; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
