| | Needham Health Offers Tips to Avoid Tick-Borne Illness | | With the warmer weather comes increased tick activity and an increased risk for tick-borne diseases such as Lyme Disease. You can prevent tick borne diseases by wearing tick repellant and performing tick checks on yourself, young children, and pets after spending time outdoors. Remember, you’re not just at risk of a tick bite when you’re out hiking! Showering immediately after spending time outdoors will help you more easily do a full body tick check and will wash off unattached ticks. Be sure to check in and around your ears, in your hair, behind your knees, inside your belly button, and under your arms. Removing ticks within 24 hours will prevent the spread of disease! If you develop a rash or have a fever, chills, or body aches within a few weeks of a tick bite or even just spending time outdoors, contact your healthcare provider. If you have any questions about tick-borne diseases such as Lyme Disease, call or email Needham Public Health. Want a wallet sized tick identification card to help you see the difference between the ticks that do and do not carry Lyme Disease? Visit Needham Public Health at Rosemary Recreation Complex! |
