Featured Volunteer Opportunities: Literacy Mid-South

#ShareYourSkill901 is Literacy Mid-South's (LMS) city-wide movement to engage community members across the literacy continuum in celebrating the rich diversity of skills that make up Memphis & to raise awareness of how literacy can be a tool for cultivating these skills. In addition to opportunities to participate online & on social media, we also have a physical bookmark station where participants can write or draw their skill on the back of the bookmark and then keep/share their bookmark or leave it with us to be used in a community art project. If any of your churches in the Memphis area would be interested in using this as an engagement opportunity one day, we’d be happy to work out a schedule to take it out there.

Click here to learn more about this and other volunteer opportunities available through LMS's Out-of-School Time provider partners.

Why Literacy Mid-South?

In January 2022, the Church Home Board awarded a grant of $145,000 to Literacy Mid-South (LMS), a nonprofit in Shelby County whose mission is to bring the gift of literacy to people of the Mid-South. The grant will allow LMS to implement their innovative educational programs for community partners, parents and students in the most vulnerable communities in Memphis. This includes community-facing literacy resources and a focus on food insecurity. The people of the Diocese of West Tennessee are encouraged to engage with LMS through volunteering.
