News from Our Community

Dharma Seminar returns to a hybrid format and moves to the afternoon. This month and through mid-June, Dharma Seminar returns to a hybrid format every week and will be held at a new time: 3:00 – 5:00 pm (PT). This is an experiment to see whether an earlier meeting time works better both for those attending in-person and those in later time zones on Zoom.

17th Annual EDZ Women’s Retreat. Please join Chris Fortin and Jaune Evans at the annual Women’s Retreat to explore the life of Mahaprajapati and the ancestors of our tradition, continuing the conversation from April seminar. This gathering of women associated with Everyday Zen offers us time to share our lives in spiritual practice and have fun together just being ourselves.

Jukai Ceremony (Lay Ordination). At the end of the month, we will have a Jukai or Lay Ordination Ceremony, in which ten students will receive the precepts from their teacher. Each ordinee will also receive a Dharma name, simple robe (rakusu), and lineage papers tracing their position in our Soto Zen family as it comes down to us from the time of the Buddha.

May All-Day Sitting with Full Moon Ceremony. Our All-Day Sitting in May will be held both online and at the Community Congregational Church in Tiburon. The day will conclude with the the full moon bodhisattva ceremony, an  ancient ritual of purification and renewal in which the entire attending sangha participates.
