Celebrate Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month
At PIC, we're on a mission 12 months a year to support, advance, and develop Pacific Island media content and talent. This month we take extra time to celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. We invite you to join us in this celebration by watching content that honors and uplifts the Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander experience.

Available to stream online or watch via your local public television station, some of the content below is new and some is worth revisiting.

PIC FUNDED CONTENT

PACIFIC HEARTBEAT, PIC's signature public television series, offers four new documentaries as part of its eleventh season.  From Aotearoa, Samoa and the shores of Waikiki, we explore what it takes to be environmental activists while being a teenager, learn from a family about their deep commitment to healing, witness a son's love and devotion to his mother as they celebrate her 100th birthday, and go on a journey of discovery as the original story and significance of four boulders are brought back to life.

Watch season eleven on your local public television station (check your local listings) or view online on pbs.org.
The 2021 Florida Surf Film Festival award-winning and 2022 Hawaii Film Critics Society award nominated documentary, directed by Isaac Halasima, explores the life, career and legacy of five-time Olympic medalist Duke Kahanamoku and his struggles to overcome racial prejudice throughout his life.

Using rare archival footage and contemporary visuals, American Masters: Waterman – Duke: Ambassador of Aloha presents Duke’s rise to fame with power and dignity as he spread the aloha spirit throughout the world.

The documentary premieres nationwide Tuesday, May 10 at 9 p.m. ET on PBS (check local listings), pbs.org/americanmasters and the PBS Video app in honor of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
PACIFIC PULSE is a collection of short films that celebrates bold, innovative and beautifully told stories that explore diverse perspectives of the Pacific Islander experience. Watch the first six episodes of season four on YouTube.
