Success in School: 2-day workshop 8/9 August 2022

We had extremely positive feedback from the 50+ people who attending this course online in March – so we are pleased to announce that the August 2022 workshop will also be held online.  The means that people from out of Auckland can easily take advantage of this professional development opportunity, and parents are more likely to attend – as we can fit it between school hours each day.  Registrations will open mid-May – and the flyer will be included with our next e-news.  As usual – if you would like us to contact your school directly – please email Paula on clo@adsa.org.nz.

Recreate NZ: ADSA Social Clubs

A reminder that our Junior (11-17) and Senior (18+) social clubs are fully up and running again – and Annabelle is doing a great job getting to know those who have attended.  Our covid policies operate in line with Recreate NZ for these events and this now means that you no longer have to be vaccinated to attend.  Unvaccinated participants will need to provide a negative RAT or PRC result no more than 48 hours before the event.  RSVPs have closed for the May event – but please keep a look out for info on the June 2022 event.

If you have NOT joined social club before – you can see the calendars and register at this link.  https://adsa.org.nz/how-we-help/local-support-groups/social-clubs/.  If you were a member in 2021 – but haven’t returned yet – please contact Annabelle at Recreate (annabelle@recreate.org.nz).

Down for Love

Don’t forget – MONDAY night, TVNZ 2, is the launch of Down for Love.  This will feature many young adults with Down syndrome from around the country – including a few familiar Auckland faces too.

New staff member: Admin Support

I would like to introduce myself – Xuan Yu.  I have recently replaced Rosie in the admin support role – and have been very busy over the last few weeks trying to learn all the systems. I am a long time ADSA member and know several of you already. I live in Gulf harbour, Whangaparora with my husband Simon and our two daughters Iris (14) and Angela (12), and Milly ( she is a three years old German Shepherd dog).  Angela has Down syndrome and vocal tics. She is very athletic and has a lot of energy. To help her release her energy, we love trips to the beach almost every day. In my spare time, I love reading and spending time with my family. I enjoy cooking but dislike cleaning. I hope to be able to contribute to all our children and families.
Please email Xuan on adminsupport@adsa.org.nz or Paula on clo@adsa.org.nz if you have any questions regarding the events and news highlighted in this update.
