🌸 Horray for May! 🌸

May is a month of celebration! Whether you are a graduating student, a mother, or a teacher, we appreciate your hard work and are ready to celebrate YOU this month. Here are just a few things happening downtown:
  • Mother's Day is this Sunday: There are only a couple more days to plan something great for Mom! Consider making reservations at Hotel Madison for brunch and then stopping by Agora Downtown Market during their special Sunday hours this weekend to pick out a fun treat. More Mother's Day ideas are in our Downtown Scene section below.
  • We Appreciate Our Local Teachers: Teachers can enjoy a 25% discount today at The Lady Jane. Plus shoppers can nominate their favorite teacher for a shopping spree in-store!
  • Happy Graduation EMU, Bridgewater, BRCC & JMU: Congratulations to the graduating class of 2022! We hope you make downtown part of your celebration. Check out our Graduation Insider for an all-inclusive guide on food, shopping, parking and more here!
  • HHS Prom is Around the Corner: Thanks to the help of student volunteers from Harrisonburg High School's Government Service Learning Class, we are delighted to bring students' pre-prom plans to downtown. As part of the project, there will be a prom photo area on Court Square complete with decorations and props. The students also worked with downtown businesses to offer HHS students special discounts for their pre-prom dinner and getting ready plans. More information is available here!

Language of Love Sculpture Installation Celebration

Wednesday, May 25 | 4 - 5 PM | Sculpture Garden
(behind the Arts Council building)

Please join artist Jeff Guinn, HDR, and ACV to celebrate downtown's newest sculpture during this sign reveal & outdoor reception.

Located by the Turner Pavilion behind the Arts Council's Smith House Galleries and designed for community members to play and interact with, Language of Love celebrates what local students and their families shared with the artist about what they love about Harrisonburg and value about living in the Friendly City – from the natural beauty surrounding our Valley town, to our welcoming spirit and inclusivity.

We invite you to participate in the unveiling of the sculpture's sign and to enjoy light refreshments while interacting with the sculpture and celebrating this amenity. Hear from the artist, Jeff Guinn, about his vision behind this work of art and how he built it and join us as we thank the many volunteers and supporters who made this possible.

Thank You for Being a Friend!

Our downtown community is made up of a supportive network of businesses, and to recognize those that help HDR build a more vibrant downtown, we present this segment featuring our Friends of Downtown donors, sponsors, and volunteers.

Thank You, #InternMorgan & #InternChristi!

If you follow @downtownharrisonburg on Instagram or TikTok, you are probably familiar with the creative work of our interns Christi and Morgan. Not only are these two social media sensations, but they have done an amazing job this semester creating campaigns for Taste of Downtown and the Great Community Give along with being our eyes and ears downtown.

Here's a message from Christi and Morgan about their semester:

“Hey, Harrisonburg! Interns Christi and Morgan here! It’s the end of the semester, and sadly the end of our time as HDR Marketing Interns together. We learned a lot, including that we are in fact the same person (just in a different font). This semester has definitely been one to remember. In all of our Downtown errands, Restaurant Month interviews, Great Community Give features, and Takeover Fridays, we quickly went from strangers to sidekicks through this internship.

Although Christi is graduating next week and pursuing a career in Media Arts & Design, Morgan will still be hanging around at HDR for the Fall 2022 semester! We are both so grateful to our Marketing Director, Emily Winter, and the awesome HDR team for such a fun and valuable experience. Through this, we’ve grown to love all that Downtown has to offer and we had a blast sharing that love with this community! Harrisonburg, you have our hearts.”

Are you interested in being a Downtown Harrisonburg Intern? We are looking for 1 - 2 interns for the summer semester. Learn more here.
