Museum Windsor - What is this?

This is a wick trimmer used to change the length of candlewicks.

The ideal wick length is .25”, which creates a brighter and cleaner burn of the candle. To achieve this the wick was trimmed.

This style of wick trimmer served to collect the discarded piece of wick to prevent a possible mess.  It was also an efficient way to trim the wick with out extinguishing the flame.
