CRBA Goes Live Around the Bay During Earth Month!

Many thanks to the many wonderful chapter members who participated in earth month events around the Bay by manning a table for our chapter. What a great way to emerge from 2 years of confinement and connect with community members on how they can engage in climate action!

Interested in tabling for CRBA? Please do!  We can provide props, signage, collateral and easy-to-follow guidelines. Contact the chapter co-chairs at CRBAChairs@gmail.com.

Chapter Member Recognized for Home Electrification

On April 19th,  Peninsula Clean Energy (PCE) recognized CRBA San Mateo squad leader Kathleen Goforth and husband Andre as 2022 All-Electric Leaders, and their home energy retrofit an “Outstanding Residential Project.”

Over the course of 10 months, the Goforths replaced all of their gas appliances with electric ones and disconnected the gas line to their home.  And they are happy campers!  About post-gas life, Kathleen says, "We've been completely gas-free and operating solely on renewably-generated electricity since last October. Our home is comfy, we have plenty of hot water when we need it, we LOVE cooking on our induction cooktop, and our monthly energy bill has been much lower than it was when we were using gas.”

Read more about the Goforth retrofit project. Thinking of replacing a gas appliance with electric, but have questions?  Or have you electrified your home and want to share your experience with others? Check out the Fossil Free Buildings Electric Home Ambassadors Program.

Reality Hub Takes Shape on a new, more collaborative, Inclusive Platform

On April 27th, the Climate Reality Project launched its Reality Hub community space on a new platform (Mobilize).

As with its predecessor, the new Hub provides an online space to connect with other climate advocates around the world, share learnings and action opportunities around solutions/issues that matter to you, access helpful resources, and share actions you are taking to make a difference in the climate crisis (they’re contagious, you know).

This new version features several key improvements:

  1. The eligible community includes not just trained Climate Reality Leaders, but all members of Climate Reality chapters.

  2. There are chapter groups, enabling our chapter members to find and interact with each other on the platform.

  3. There is a mobile app, making it much easier to interact and post content.

As a CRBA member, you have or will soon receive an email welcoming you to the Hub with some helpful resources to guide you in joining the platform, dialing in your settings for notifications, connecting with groups, etc.  If you have any questions, contact chapter co-chair, Harriet Harvey-Horn at CRBAChairs@gmail.com or the national support team at support@climatereality.com.  See you on the new Hub soon!

Help Climate Reality Bay Area Have a Voice on California Climate Policy

Interested in moving the needle on state level climate policy? CRBA is too, and we need your help!

This role is developing, so this is a great ground-floor opportunity. It may involve some level of research, but mostly liaising with like-minded climate orgs and the California Coalition of Climate Reality Chapters to help our chapter efficiently identify and advocate for impactful climate policy in California.

Interested? Have suggestions or ideas to share about this role for CRBA? Let’s talk! Contact chapter co-chairs, Bonnie Hamilton and Harriet Harvey-Horn at CRBAChairs@gmail.com.

Rising Sun Climate Careers for Youth

Are you between the ages of 15 - 22 and looking for an opportunity to make an impact with Climate? The Climate Careers program was started by a small group of high school youth who were eager to take direct environmental action in their community. In continuation of this pursuit, youth participants ages 15-22 from low-income households around the greater Bay Area will have the opportunity to build their resumes and professional skills through work-based learning as Energy Specialists.

Interested in Getting a House Call to Make Your Home More Efficient?

Contact Rising Sun Green House Call to utilize this FREE service to help make your home more efficient, such as switching out to LEDs and low-flow faucets, and to help support their youth Energy Specialists.
