We are beyond excited to finally reunite as a company again! This month, chuthis. will spend three weeks in creative residency at The Institute for Contemporary Dance in Houston, culminating in two performances on May 27th & 28th. The show will feature dancers Peter Chu, Jenni Gordon, Robbie Moore, Sloan Pearson, Chelsea Thedinga, & Roger Van der Poel, with costumes designed by Linda Chow and lighting by Jason Cochran. Plus, at the performances, you will hear new music by Mike Gordon & see a special film project by Lauren Berthelot. Joining us later in the month for our technical residency is lighting and projection designer Sven Ortel.

We are thrilled for the opportunity to finally bring our newest program of work to an audience. Our roots in Houston are deep, so we hope to see some familiar faces there!

About Rhythmic Identity

Rhythmic Identity is a triple bill that comprises three works: Tracing Rhythms, Get Out, and Inform(ed). Rhythmic Identity celebrates the both/ands of one's lineage, instead of exploring the contrasting differences.

Rhythmic Identity grooves through:
BOTH a rise AND fall of a body,
BOTH a straight AND supple spine,
BOTH a relaxed AND rooted posture,
BOTH percussive AND sustained movement, and
BOTH urban AND traditional forms.

The vibrations and sounds generated from music connect humans at a profound level as rhythms can heal and bring communities together during times of sadness, grief, love, and joy. Rhythms connect us deeply and play a vital role in enhancing peaceful connections amongst diverse communities. It helps us co-exist! Rhythmic Identity takes action with a peaceful heart yet firm intention!
— Peter Chu
