Latinas are going to college at higher rates than ever before. But education doesn’t eliminate the pay gap. In fact, the gap is largest for Latinas with a bachelor’s degree, who earn 35% less than white men on average

Resource Guide for the Latinx Community of Northern Nevada

The Latino Research Center has constructed this bilingual resource guide intended to assist the Northern Nevada Latinx community in finding the services and assistance all in one place, including resources on health, education, and financial aid.
Border-Lines is an interdisciplinary and intersectional academic journal dedicated to the dissemination of research on Chicana/o-Latina/o cultural, political and social issues. Border-Lines is a refereed journal that seeks to publish scholarly articles drawn from a variety of disciplines such as anthropology, education, geography, human health, literary and cultural studies, political science, social work and sociology.

DACA Updates
  • Checkout the ways to get involved, and find out upcoming events with Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada.
  • SHPEP offers a program for first-year and sophomore undergraduate, underrepresented students interested in careers in the health professions, taking place in person from June 20 through July 29, 2022.
  • The IUPLR wants Latino/a/x artists, scholars, and experts to find opportunities and be successful in their careers. As such, our online posting board will host as many jobs, call for papers, conferences, grants, fellowships, etc. that pertain to the Latino/a/e/x community as we can find. You can help IUPLR by submitting your events through our online form. Online Calendar & Event Submissions 
  • For the next two months Parent University will bring you Thursday Tips for families beginning with High School students ready to attend College/University, learn about financial aid available.
  • Humanities Heart to Heart is a series of essays and multimedia presentations created by Nevadans that highlight diverse, personal perspectives from all corners of the Silver State, reflecting on life during the COVID-19 pandemic. Join them as they share, watch, and listen to each other's stories. The format of these pieces is flexible, as they've received anything from photographic essays to flash fiction to poetry and artwork, and more. 
  • These Zoom sessions will be presented entirely in Spanish, and are perfect opportunities for any monolingual Spanish-speaking Nevadans who are hoping to learn about dementia and how to support the well-being of community members living with dementia. Presented every third Wednesday of each month at 12:00pm
  • Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to answering phones, greeting visitors, casework intake, and assisting the Northern Nevada Director and other staff with projects as assigned. All candidates will complete a writing test as part of the interview process. Bilingual (in English and Spanish) candidates are encouraged to apply. 
  • The Nevada Center for Applied Research (NCAR) has a student worker opportunity that is currently open and available on workday NCAR Main Office. NCAR is an applied research and development technology center, located on right here on campus. If any students are looking for work this summer and are interested in research administration and/or robotics, we encourage you to apply for these positions!
  • The Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans will be hosting an informational webinar for new applicants. Students can apply as undergraduate seniors if pursuing a graduate degree. Very briefly, this fellowship is open to undocumented students that graduated from US colleges, DACAmented students, and immigrants or sons of immigrants pursuing any graduate degree (FROM ANY FIELD).
Research and Innovation
  • The DRI Luminescence Lab (DRILL) is looking for an hourly employee to work in their preparation lab. Duties mainly include helping with OSL sample preparation (sieving, acid digestion, mineral separation, rock drilling/slicing), database management, and keeping good notes. This opportunity is for a minimum of 10 hours/week, applicants can email (kathr@dri.edu) with their resume and their availability to work over the summer and fall semesters
  • The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a part-time Coordinator of MAKE (Mentoring of Achievement & Knowledge in Engineering) Nevada for the College of Engineering. Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree  and two (2) years of related work experience OR Master’s Degree and one (1) year of related work experience. Related Experience: Student support functions such as recruitment, coordination of pipeline programs, tutoring, educational support services.
