This is Teacher Appreciation Week in the USA, so we want to take a moment to thank God for our teachers, TAs, administration, and for each Dalat staff member who made our children’s learning possible this year!
We are grateful that you were diligent in coming up with new creative ways to enable learning with certain restrictions still in place, navigating extended absences, sickness, quarantine, and online instruction; that you found opportunities where others might see limitations; that you chose to see beyond the masks and beyond the grades to meet our children where they were; and that you showed understanding, support, and grace.
We are grateful that our children were able to learn not only their subjects, but more importantly, they learned life lessons as they looked to you in these unusual & challenging times. We are grateful that God has sustained you and that He has ministered to our children through you this year. We pray that He will provide for all your needs and bless you with renewed strength this month and with a restful summer break.
With Appreciation,
Dalat PTO (on behalf of ALL parents)

Never Stop Dreaming
꿈꾸는 것을 멈추지 말아요 从不停止做梦

Last Friday night, the Senior Class was treated to a beautiful night of dinner and a show, presented by the Junior Class. JSB (Junior-Senior Banquet) has been a Dalat tradition since at least the early 1960’s. This event has blossomed since its very modest roots. The first event was reportedly a hot dog BBQ, but now includes five months of preparation, a program, over 250 guests, three courses, and formal attire. Usually, Dalat high school students attend three JSBs – seniors are always the honored guests, juniors are the hosts, and sophomores attend in order to host next year’s event. However, due to the COVID pandemic, this was the first and last JSB for our graduating class, and none of the students in attendance had ever attended a JSB.
This year’s event was titled “Tangled: Never Stop Dreaming” – a spin on Disney’s Tangled. The Junior Class and their sponsors worked tirelessly to create amazing decorations, an entertaining theatrical performance, and a delicious menu. Comments like "[we were] blown away by what the juniors were able to create for us," and "I could not believe how much work that must have taken," among other remarks showed how much the Senior Class appreciated being honored through this tradition. One of the juniors said that she had learned more life skills through the project than anything else she has done so far.
In keeping with tradition, the Senior Class hosted an After-JSB Dinner as a “thank you” to the juniors. At this event, the Senior Class spoofs and repurposes the previous night’s JSB theme, using the decor to create a parody of the previous night’s event. This year, the Senior Class' theme was “Tangoed: Never Stop Dancing.” Great memories were made by all.

Annual Fund in Action

(Trevor Riffey, High School Science Teacher and Athletic Trainer, and J.J. Davis, Athletic Director)
After a long wait, we have now received our new automated external defibrillator (AED) that will be located on the front of the gymnasium. The addition of this second AED will allow us to respond even more quickly to cardiac-related emergencies in and around our athletics facilities, and within steps of our three student dorms. This would not have been possible without the generous gifts made during this year's Annual Fund. Thank you!

Living Museum 2022

Our Grade 5 students worked for the past six weeks to prepare for the Living Museum, which they presented on May 3 in Harbor Hall. The Living Museum is a project that provides students the opportunity to study about a famous person and their contributions to our world. Students research and study about their famous figure, and then create a speech, poster, props, and a costume to represent the life of this person. Students memorize the scripts in preparation for their performance in Harbor Hall. These students worked very hard to put together some amazing presentations. Thank you to all the students, parents, and teachers who supported this project.
