In the U.S., this week is dedicated to Teacher Appreciation. Here, we expand this appreciation week to include all of our wonderful staff at Dalat. Here’s what middle school students had to say about their teachers.

They take the time to get to know you.
They are easy-going and always manage to make classes fun.
They’re understanding, care for you more, and give you grace.

As a school leadership team, we greatly appreciate each and every staff member. The teachers and staff are what make Dalat such a special place, because every adult on campus seeks the best for each student. I am so amazed at the measures teachers are willing to take in order to help the students learn and grow. Our housekeeping staff have worked even harder the last couple years by sanitizing surfaces regularly and at a moment's notice. I’m thankful for the yard workers who faithfully complete the same tasks every day to make Dalat beautiful. There are so many support staff who not only fulfill their responsibilities well, but also go out of their way to find ways to keep improving Dalat. I appreciate our kitchen staff who serve over 500 healthy and delicious meals every day. I am grateful for our dorm staff, who care for kids 24 hours a day when they are not able to be with their parents. I value all of our office and finance staff, who take care of the important and meaningful details which keep Dalat functioning. I am thankful for our maintenance workers who keep the campus in working order and are always looking to improve our facilities. I admire our security team, who work long hours and are ready to help whenever needed. I am encouraged by our school leaders, who wrestle with many decisions and work endlessly to meet the needs of students, staff, and families. Dalat is an amazing place to work because of our team of teachers and staff.

As a staff, we want to say a “thank you” to the PTO who richly blessed all our teachers and staff with store vouchers and encouraged students to write notes of appreciation to the teachers this week. In addition, I would also like to encourage our parents to take a few moments to write an email of appreciation to a staff member. These words of encouragement from parents mean a great deal to our teachers and staff, and many of them are treasured, and read over and over. Thank you, as well, for being an important and valued member of the Dalat community.

Have a Blessed Weekend,

THANK YOU, Dalat Teachers & Staff!

달랏 선생님과 스탭분들께 감사를 전합니다
 Dalat老师和员工,感谢你们

This is Teacher Appreciation Week in the USA, so we want to take a moment to thank God for our teachers, TAs, administration, and for each Dalat staff member who made our children’s learning possible this year!

We are grateful that you were diligent in coming up with new creative ways to enable learning with certain restrictions still in place, navigating extended absences, sickness, quarantine, and online instruction; that you found opportunities where others might see limitations; that you chose to see beyond the masks and beyond the grades to meet our children where they were; and that you showed understanding, support, and grace.

We are grateful that our children were able to learn not only their subjects, but more importantly, they learned life lessons as they looked to you in these unusual & challenging times. We are grateful that God has sustained you and that He has ministered to our children through you this year. We pray that He will provide for all your needs and bless you with renewed strength this month and with a restful summer break.

With Appreciation,
Dalat PTO (on behalf of ALL parents)

Never Stop Dreaming

꿈꾸는 것을 멈추지 말아요      从不停止做梦

Last Friday night, the Senior Class was treated to a beautiful night of dinner and a show, presented by the Junior Class. JSB (Junior-Senior Banquet) has been a Dalat tradition since at least the early 1960’s. This event has blossomed since its very modest roots. The first event was reportedly a hot dog BBQ, but now includes five months of preparation, a program, over 250 guests, three courses, and formal attire. Usually, Dalat high school students attend three JSBs – seniors are always the honored guests, juniors are the hosts, and sophomores attend in order to host next year’s event. However, due to the COVID pandemic, this was the first and last JSB for our graduating class, and none of the students in attendance had ever attended a JSB.

This year’s event was titled “Tangled: Never Stop Dreaming” – a spin on Disney’s Tangled. The Junior Class and their sponsors worked tirelessly to create amazing decorations, an entertaining theatrical performance, and a delicious menu. Comments like "[we were] blown away by what the juniors were able to create for us," and "I could not believe how much work that must have taken," among other remarks showed how much the Senior Class appreciated being honored through this tradition. One of the juniors said that she had learned more life skills through the project than anything else she has done so far.

In keeping with tradition, the Senior Class hosted an After-JSB Dinner as a “thank you” to the juniors. At this event, the Senior Class spoofs and repurposes the previous night’s JSB theme, using the decor to create a parody of the previous night’s event. This year, the Senior Class' theme was “Tangoed: Never Stop Dancing.” Great memories were made by all.

Annual Fund in Action

연간 기금 활동   年度基金在行动

(Trevor Riffey, High School Science Teacher and Athletic Trainer, and J.J. Davis, Athletic Director)
After a long wait, we have now received our new automated external defibrillator (AED) that will be located on the front of the gymnasium. The addition of this second AED will allow us to respond even more quickly to cardiac-related emergencies in and around our athletics facilities, and within steps of our three student dorms. This would not have been possible without the generous gifts made during this year's Annual Fund. Thank you!

Living Museum 2022

살아있는 박물관 2022      2022鲜活博物馆

Our Grade 5 students worked for the past six weeks to prepare for the Living Museum, which they presented on May 3 in Harbor Hall. The Living Museum is a project that provides students the opportunity to study about a famous person and their contributions to our world. Students research and study about their famous figure, and then create a speech, poster, props, and a costume to represent the life of this person. Students memorize the scripts in preparation for their performance in Harbor Hall. These students worked very hard to put together some amazing presentations. Thank you to all the students, parents, and teachers who supported this project.
