Vale John Cripps
Western Australian apple breeder and industry legend John Cripps has died this week, aged 95. Working for the WA Department of Agriculture John bred the Cripps Pink variety upon which the internationally successful Pink Lady® brand is founded and also its sibling Cripps Red (Sundowner®).
The UK-based Apples and People interviewed John and industry peers last year, celebrating his immense contribution to the apple industry in a tribute which we reshare below.
We thank John for his enormous legacy and send sincere condolences to John's family.
Congratulations Mr Cripps (April 2021)
