Raising voices and pursuing equality

Happy Thursday and last week of the semester! It's a big week here at The NewsHouse! We launched our year-long project Entitled to Equality which dives into Title IX's 50-year history of advancing gender equality. And Kate Brennan's Aloha ʻāina project digs into the controversy surrounding building a telescope on Mauna Kea in Hawai'i. In other news, we cover FADS' "Abiotic Wanderers spring show, SU softball's big win over Niagara and the impact of COVID on students' mental health. Also, if you are looking for something to take your mind off finals, check out Seth Knievel's theatrical work that highlights queer stories, or our review of the collection of short stories "When Watched."

We spent months seeking to answer this question: How has Title IX advanced gender equality over the past 50 years and where has it failed to do so?

THIS WEEK'S SYRACUSE NEWS

  • FADS "Abiotic Wanderers" show featured original fashion inspired by a theme of Earth before and after human existence.
  • The Syracuse women's softball team launched three home runs in its 6-2 home victory over Niagara.
  • SU's counseling center has seen an overflow of students seeking assistance due to post-COVID stress.
  • Block Party returned in person with 2 Chainz, Baby Keem and more. They lit up the Dome last Friday, hyping up students as the school year winds down.
