17th Annual Tahoe Bike Month Begins June 1

Gather your friends, family, and coworkers for a month-long celebration of biking in Tahoe. Together with the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA), the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition has been celebrating Tahoe Bike Month for the past 17 years. Ride your bike to work or school, around town, or just for fun!

Bike Month Events
June 1-3 - Bike & Walk to School Week
- Walk or ride your bike to school to win bike safety prizes! Volunteers will be at the LTUSD elementary schools and middle school and at Lake Tahoe School in Incline Village.
June 1 - Bike Path Cleanup
- Kick off bike month by cleaning up the bike paths. The South Shore cleanup is Wednesday, June 1st from 5 - 7p.m.
June 4 - Truckee Day Cleanup
- Join us for the 19th annual Truckee Day Cleanup on Saturday, June 4th from 8 a.m. – noon.
June 5 - America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride
- Bike the West and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society invite you to participate in the 29th annual America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride around the Lake, one of the most scenic and awe-inspiring rides you will ever experience.
June 12 – Lake Tahoe Pride Bike Ride
- Join Lake Tahoe Pride at Lakeview Commons for a pride celebration bike ride and picnic at 11 a.m. This is the perfect chance to celebrate Pride Month and Bike Month in Tahoe!
June 14 - South Shore Bike to Work Day
- Stop by our booth at Lakeview Commons on your way to and from work to grab some fuel for your ride!
June 18 - Truckee Bike Rodeo
- Stop by for some fun at the Truckee River Regional Park with your Truckee Police Officers! Join us Saturday June 18th, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
June 18 & 19 - Tahoe Mountain Bike Festival
- Join the Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association (TAMBA) at the Divided Sky on Sunday, June 19th to celebrate mountain biking and help fund future trail projects.
June 23 – North Shore Bike to Work Day
- Stop by our booth at Tahoe City Commons on your way to work to grab some fuel for your ride!

TRPA Launches Transportation Equity Study for Lake Tahoe

Following the recently adopted Regional Transportation Plan (RTP), TRPA is embarking on a new Transportation Equity Study to build upon the environmental justice assessment included in the RTP, review best practices for equity and inclusion, and prepare recommendations and action steps for TRPA’s transportation system. This comprehensive study will assess transportation equity by identifying the needs, concerns, and vulnerabilities of all those living, working, and visiting the Tahoe Basin. TRPA kicked off the study with a consultant in early 2022 and work is expected to be completed by mid-2023.
Overall, the Transportation Equity Study will be used to:
- Improve TRPA’s public outreach and engagement.
- Incorporate equity considerations into TRPA’s transportation program, policies, and planning processes.
- Provide recommendations to reduce climate change impacts.
- Further incorporate equity into TRPA’s Regional Grant Program evaluation.
- Improve recreation access for transportation disadvantaged populations.
This effort is just the beginning of an important process to ensure Tahoe’s transportation system is accessible and convenient for all travelers and their mobility needs. Cascade to Meeks Trail Feasibility Study-Potential Alignments

The State Route 89 Recreation Corridor Plan identified a missing link in the Tahoe trail system ultimately proposed to circumnavigate Lake Tahoe. This segment would connect Meeks Bay in the north to Cascade Creek in the south, providing bike and pedestrian access to popular destinations like Emerald Bay, DL Bliss, Bayview, and Eagle Falls. Such an alignment poses an engineering challenge for planners and land managers charged with stewardship and maintenance of roadways, recreation facilities, scenic and natural resources along Tahoe’s West Shore. Visitors and nearby residents also have a stake in where the trail would be located and how it would be designed.
The project team (TRPA, California State Parks, U.S. Forest Service, Caltrans, and El Dorado County) in partnership with the Washoe Tribe, worked with NCE Engineering to develop criteria to evaluate the feasibility of various trail alignments. The potential trail alignments and evaluation criteria are now available to explore through an interactive map tool.
To allow stakeholders to participate in the portions of the corridor they are most passionate about, TRPA will be holding a series of three informational meetings to provide more detail about the ranked alignments and next steps. Each of the three meetings will be focused on two of the six trail segments identified for the Corridor as noted below.
