School of the Month:
Guadalupe Centers High School
CIS of Mid-America Student Support Coordinator Katie McClave
HIGHLIGHTS

Guadalupe Centers High School emphasizes the importance of attending school on time. Communities In Schools (CIS) of Mid-America's Student Support Coordinator (SSC) Katie McClave and the Attendance Team consisting of the school's Principal, Assistant Principal, and Attendance Clerk, held a Perfect Attendance Party for the six students who had 100% attendance all of the second trimester. Students received a pass to get out of class for a pizza party, a certificate of recognition, and a prize bag. Parents of the students also received a congratulatory letter. When asked why they were motivated not to miss school, students replied their parents, not missing class time, and going to college.

"CIS has impacted me by giving me the motivation to finish school."

SSC McClave and the Attendance Team hosted an Attendance Challenge where students were encouraged to arrive at school on time. The classrooms with the highest attendance and no tardies were surprised with fresh donuts.
CIS of Mid-America's SSC partnered with the school counselor, the Trauma-Informed Care Teams, and Student Support Teams for the Culture Week Tier 1 event. Culture Week consisted of four days of lessons focused on building connections between students, building relationships, improving school culture, and living out school values of Comunidad, conexión, and corazón.
“I have been so happy to have CIS here at our school. I have an amazing partnership with Miss. McClave. We work together with students regarding dress code, referral for food (pantry), school supplies, and academic support.”
- Elda Aranda, Focus Room Faculty, and BIST coordinator
CIS of Mid-America and the Attendance team recognized 51 students who had perfect attendance and 153 students who improved their attendance. Each student received a goody bag, and students with 100% attendance also received a wristband for a dress-down day.
