SPECIAL NOTICE: Medicare Announcement - The Social Security Administration had technical difficulties with their phone system this winter and are granting “equitable relief” to those who were affected. If you were unable to enroll or disenroll in Medicare because you could not reach SSA by phone after January 1, 2022, you will be granted additional time, through December 30, 2022. For additional information, contact the SHINE counselor 978-371-2895.
 
SPECIAL NOTICE: Wednesday, May 11 Wang Theatre: “On Location” Tour - 1:00pm St. Irene - This FREE experience will take you behind-the-scenes of one of Boston’s most prominent landmarks during the celebration of its 96th anniversary. Learn about the theatre’s architectural highlights and unique history – from its hotel roots and glamorous days as a movie “cathedral,” to today’s role as an impressive venue for performances and events. View the same dressing rooms and hallways once walked by entertainers like Bruce Springsteen, Ella Fitzgerald, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Queen, Elton John, Lady Gaga, Liza Minnelli and more! Monday, May 16 Bereavement Support Group (All Ages) - 1:00pm Town Hall Heald Room - Open to anyone who has experienced a loss in the last few years. The group will meet the 2nd and 4th Monday each month. There will be a brief presentation at each meeting and time to discuss and share experiences. Tuesday, May 17 Restaurant Review: Rapscallion Table & Tap - Van departure time TBD - Enjoy lunch featuring locally sourced ingredients inside their historic farmhouse or al fresco on the patio. You may drive on your own or sign up for the COA van. Van fee $5 payable to driver on the day of the trip. Only 12 seats available on the van. Wednesday, May 18 Jewish Songwriters of the 60’s and 70’s - 1:30pm Gleason Library - To help us celebrate Jewish American Heritage Month, music history lecturer John Clark will present Jewish songwriters of the 60s and 70s, particularly the music history created by the Burt Bacharach/Hal David duo and the singer/songwriter Neil Diamond. Wednesday, May 18 Dementia Caregiver Stress and Self-Care (All Ages) - 5:00-6:00am Town Hall or Brick Building - Sponsored by Carlisle Rec - Instructor is Olivia Evans, CDP, CMDCP. This 1-hour interactive program is for anyone - caregivers, family, friends, neighbors, professionals - who interacts with persons living with dementia. You will learn the basics of the disease and its progression, what is normal vs. what may be dementia, how to approach stress, and avenues for self-care. You will walk away equipped with resources and tools to feel supported, knowledgeable, and confident, no matter your role in their life. Cost is $15 for Seniors. Link here to register.
 
Thursday, May 24 COA Lunch - 12:00pm Congregational Church - An in-person lunch featuring BBQ chicken. Following lunch at 1:00pm, the Concord Traveling Players troupe will help us commemorate the upcoming Memorial Day holiday with a medley of patriotic songs. Complimentary for Carlisle 60+ residents. Thursday, May 26 Veterans Coffee (All Ages) - 11:00am Town Hall - Enjoy FREE coffee and pastries. If you have served or are on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces come to this special coffee hour in honor of your service. Registration requested. SPECIAL NOTICE: Korean Family Month Celebration - The Korean Cultural Society of Boston is partnering with the Friends of the Concord Free Public Library to bring a celebration of Korean culture through the month of May. Enjoy an exhibition of Minwha (Korean Folk Paintings) from May 2–31, in the Main Library Art Gallery. The exhibition features Seongmin Ahn, Insun Cho, Sunhee Hur, and Jaeok Lee. Friday, May 20 Bedford Memory Café - 10:30am via Zoom - Sponsored by the Bedford COA - Join Elizabeth Kaupp of Bedford’s Right At Home for our alternative ‘virtual’ Memory Café. Caregivers and loved ones are welcome to join us via zoom to reconnect with others during COVID and socialize. This month, join pianist Mel Stiller. He has been playing piano and leading sing-alongs at senior centers, memory cafes, assisted and independent livings, and nursing homes for the past decade. He specializes in standards and show tunes from the 19201960s. Wherever he plays, songbooks can be distributed with lyrics to the songs being played so participants can sing or follow along.
