ABOUT THIS WEBINAR
Connect to Wellness is a free, evidence-based workplace wellness intervention developed to increase adoption of health promotion practices in small and mid-sized workplaces via their health department. Adapted from the CDC Community Guide to Preventive Resources, these practices include healthy eating, physical activity, tobacco cessation, cancer screening, stress reduction, and vaccination education. You will hear from health department staff who, currently and in the past, received training and support to deliver Connect to Wellness and successfully built bridges with small and mid-sized worksites in their communities and assisted them in implementing these worksite wellness practices.
The Connect to Wellness team, Dr. Peggy Hannon, Kristen Hammerback, and Michelle Strait, will discuss the development and effectiveness of Connect to Wellness, and will show how this program helps health department staff to develop workplace health promotion skills and partnerships with local businesses.

The Role of Nature in Promoting Children’s Physical and Mental Wellbeing
Casey Family Programs and the Children & Nature Network recognize the enormous opportunities that exist when we connect what we know about the negative impacts of trauma and the equally restorative effects that even short periods of time in nature can have. Join us for a conversation as we explore and spread the word on this free resource—the healing power of nature—and the benefits for children impacted by ACEs, families, and chronic disease prevention. This webinar is co-sponsored by NACDD and Safe States.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the impacts of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) on health throughout the lifespan.
- Explain how time spent in nature can provide a buffer against ACEs by promoting resilience, recovery, and self-regulation instead of well-being.
- Recognize how inequities in access to nature connect to disparities in chronic disease distribution.
- Identify possible new partnerships and opportunities for scaling nature-based interventions to promote health and health equity.
Speakers:
- Monica Lopez Magee, MPA, Children & Nature Network - Senior Vice President, Cities and Community Engagement
- Patsy Sellars, MSW, Casey Family Programs - Managing Director, Field Offices Management
