The CSA Board of Trustees has an opening for a Board Secretary
|

This is an important role in the CSA governance structure. The Secretary serves as an Officer and ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees (BOT) with full voting rights. The Secretary also serves on the Executive Committee as a non-voting member. The Board Secretary is an active conduit for communication between Board members. The role is responsible for proactively collaborating with Board members to set up meetings, giving proper notice of any meetings, and promptly distributing materials including agendas and minutes. This is a volunteer position.
Term: Each term of office shall be for one year and can be renewed for successive one-year terms by a vote of the BOT. The position will start on August 6, 2022 after the Annual Meeting. We have an excellent onboarding process during the summer to help you get oriented on the CSA structure, governance, policies and procedures.
Skill and Knowledge Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years business or organizational experience preferred
- Proficient computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office suite
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

CRYSTAL LAKE & WATERSHED ASSOCIATION SUSPENDS DUCK RELOCATION
The Crystal Lake & Watershed Association (CLWA) regrets to announce the cancellation of its 2022 swimmer’s itch control season at the direction of the Department of Natural Resources. Due to the epidemic of “highly pathogenic” avian influenza (bird flu) in Michigan, the DNR has suspended all permits for the trapping and relocation of waterfowl including common merganser ducks, the procedure that facilitated the program.

Garlic Mustard Removal Days May 16 & 17: Here’s a chance to reunite with your CSA friends and neighbors and meet some of our partners in caring for the environment from Northwest Michigan Invasive Species Network. Join in for as much time as you can (both Monday and Tuesday), from 9:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. to rid the common grounds of invasive Garlic Mustard, and if desired, bring your brown bag lunch.
Meet Mary Lou Stanton (CSA) and Murielle Garbarino, Habitat Management Specialist, (NWMISN) at the Assembly Building. If arriving later than 9:30 a.m., please call Mary Lou at (901) 679-3633 for location. Garlic mustard removal will take place in light rain. A thunderstorm will cancel the events. Suggested attire: long pants, long-sleeved shirt, hat, and gloves.

In the recent edition of the CSA Assembly News, a donation made to the Education Fund in honor of Joseph and Kathleen Mortensen was incorrectly listed under "in memory of." A donation to the Pilgrim Fund in honor of Joseph Mortensen was also incorrectly listed under "in memory of." Both Funds regret the error, and are very grateful to Charles and Helga Mortensen for their generous gifts.

Cottage Treasures, Treasure Trove, and the Silent Auction Baskets will be held on Wednesday, July 27th along with the Arts & Crafts Fair. Before you head to the CSA, think about what treasures in good condition you may want to bring along to donate. A fun idea for the Silent Auction is to create a basket showcasing your area - BarBQue, Italian Goodies, Sports Teams, etc.!

The Ecology Committee is responsible for all aspects of our ecosystem – this includes the forest, underbrush, invasive plants and grasses, beaches and Crystal Lake! The Committee has put together a List of Resources for local Arborists, Foresters, Invasive Species Experts and other Landscape/Nursery Specialists has been updated on our website. Lifeguard Class: If you or someone you know would like to take the course to become a Red Cross Certified Lifeguard, we will offer it at the CSA over multiple days starting Wednesday, July 6th. This summer the CSA Big Read will be "Americanah," by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The novel is about a young Nigerian woman Lfemelu, who immigrates to the United States where she struggles with racism, relationships and identity. The book won the 2013 U.S. National Book Critics Circle Award. Dates and times for the talk are coming soon!
