Course Highlight:
Policy Development and Procedure Writing
Next available date is Tuesday, 17 and Wednesday, 18 May 2022 
This course focuses on the skills needed to write clear procedures and how to effectively establish, coordinate and promote policy development within the Local Government sector. Course content includes the need for consulting on, developing, implementing and reviewing procedures for Council. It also examines the development of policy through discussions, policy structure and its changing nature. 

Target Audience
Targeting Officers who would like to further develop their skills in developing and writing policy and procedure documents and increase their understanding of Local Government Governance requirements.

Learning Outcomes
  • Use enhanced skills to participate in establishing the need for a written procedure;
  • Gather information and data to produce a procedures manual;
  • Consult and communicate with staff at the development and implementation stages;
  • Monitor, evaluate and promote policy development;
  • Identify and resolve problems in the workplace that are caused by poor practice; and
  • Identify future directions in policy development.

WALGA have recently revised their suite of Procurement courses, so that more than ever they can equip Local Government Officers to undertake the end to end procurement process with increased skills development and confidence. Learning is enhanced with the use of detailed learner guides, case studies, handouts, and other learning activities. The revised learner guides are in themselves a handy to have reference tool when undertaking specific procurement activity, as they have been revised with the practitioner in mind when undertaking procurement in a Local Government context.
