THY KINGDOM COME
This year between Ascension Day (Thursday 26 May) and Pentecost (Sunday 5 June) we will be taking part in a global prayer initiative called ‘Thy Kingdom Come’. Originally started by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York in 2016 as a call to prayer to the Church of England, it has grown to encompass Christians from 80+ denominations and 172 countries around the world. (See www.thykingdomcome.global)
The idea is very simple; that every Christian commits to praying for 5 people during the 11 days, so that friends and family, neighbours and colleagues might come to faith in Jesus Christ.
Carolyn has ordered beautifully illustrated prayer journals to go with this initiative, as well as a helpful 11-day personal bible study aid based on the book of 1 Peter (all free of charge). Please contact Carolyn if you would like one or both of these. You can download the ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ prayer app for free too. You can also find many other resources on the ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ website, and especially if this is something you would like to do creatively as a family.
PRAYER WALK
On Saturday 4 June at 10.00am we will also have a prayer walk in and around Godmanchester, when we will pray together for the work and people of our community. There will be several ‘prayer stations’, so those with more limited mobility can also join in by car.
As the disciples experienced the power of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, we encourage you to unite with thousands of Christians across the globe in praying for God’s Spirit to touch people’s lives, so they too can know the life and transforming love of Jesus.
“In praying ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ we all commit to playing our part in the renewal of the nations and the transformation of communities.” - Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury.
