Health Insurance Fund expenditures have tripled
The Ministry of Health reported that the expenditures of the Health Insurance Fund are 3.3 times higher compared to the same period last year. Expenditures in the first quarter of 2022 were 617.9 billion MNT. In the beginning of 2022, 94.5 percent of all expenditures were medical expenses, and the remaining expenses covered drug discounts and care services. MP Ch. Khurelbaatar stated that health sector spending is increasing due to the high demand for medical services. It was decided that a budget of 60.8 billion MNT would be available for free early diagnosis and analysis services available to Mongolian citizens starting on May 1, 2022. Every citizen who pays for health insurance is eligible for a free check-up every two years; however, only six to seven of the population is covered. According to the Ministry of Health, self-employed individuals who do not pay health insurance premiums will be able to get a free check-up after paying their 2019 premiums.
