Elections Of The Board Of Directors - Year 2022
Annual elections for positions on the Board of Directors of the Islamic Center of Boston will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2022. The General Body Meeting of the center will be held on Sunday, June 5, 2022 and will provide an opportunity to meet all the candidates. 

Members of the center are requested to submit nominations for these positions by Sunday, May 15, 2022 on the nomination forms enclosed with this letter. Nomination forms should be filled completely and signed by the nominators as well as the nominee. The nominators are requested to ensure that their nominee meets all of the eligibility requirements for the position for which he/she is being nominated. Details of these requirements for the above mentioned positions are given on the back side of the nomination forms. The forms may be handed over in person to any member of the Election Commission or sent by email to election.commission@icbwayland.org

The members of the center would be notified by mail of the names of all the eligible nominees and a list of their names would also be posted on the center’s notice boards. The nominators and/or the nominee may withdraw the nomination at any time before the actual election. The positions for which more than one candidate would have been nominated would be filled by means of a formal election during the general body meeting. The voting will be by means of secret ballots cast by eligible voting members of the center. A list of all eligible voting members of the center will be posted on the center’s notice board at least three weeks before the date of the general body meeting. Members are requested to verify that their names appear on the list. Any errors and/or omissions in the voting list should be brought to the notice of the secretary of the board and/or members of the membership committee; all such issues must be resolved before the actual date of the elections.

ICB BYLAWS
Article VIII - Election Of The Board Of Directors
1. The members of the Board of Directors shall be elected by the voting members of the Shura during their annual spring meeting.
2. Duration - The duration of the office of the members of the Board of Directors shall be two years with one half of the members of the board to be elected in the odd numbered years and the other half in the even numbered years as per the following schedule:
  • Even Numbered Years (e.g. 2022) : Two Members at large, Director of Educational Affairs, Treasurer, Vice President
  • Odd Numbered Years (e.g. 2023): One Member at large, Director of Religious Affairs, Secretary, President
3. Number Of Terms - Members of the Board of Directors shall not serve for more than one term consecutively.
4. Eligibility - In order for a person to be nominated and elected as a member of the Board, he/she must:
  • be a citizen or a permanent resident of the U.S.A.
  • be a permanent resident of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • have been a voting member, in continuous good standing, of the center for a specified number of years on the 1st of May of the year in which the election is to be held, as per the following enumeration:
  • President: 5 years
  • Vice President: 5 years
  • Secretary: 3 years
  • Treasurer: 3 years
  • Director of Religious Affairs: 3 years
  • Director of Educational Affairs: 3 years
  • Member at Large: 1 year
5. Election Commission
  • The annual elections of the Board of Directors shall be conducted by a three member Election Commission. Members of this commission shall be chosen by the Shura during its annual fall meeting, for a duration of one year.
  • A member of the election commission may not be nominated for any position on the Board of Directors. Similarly, a member of a sitting Board of Directors may not serve on the election commission without first resigning from his/her position on the Board.
  • In matters of procedures and any disputes related to the elections, the decision of the Election Commission shall be final and binding on all concerned provided they are in conformity with these by laws.
6. Election Procedures
  • The commission shall be responsible for holding fair and impartial elections in a timely manner. To this end the commission shall send a notice of the annual elections, clearly specifying the time table for holding of the elections, at least six weeks prior to the date of the elections.
  •  The commission shall solicit written nominations from the voting members of the Shura on official ICB nomination forms. These forms shall be sent to the members of the Shura along with the election notice. The commission would take appropriate steps to encourage qualified members of the center to volunteer for service on the Board.
  •  All nominations shall be proposed by at least two voting members of the Shura and agreed to by the nominee in writing.
  • The role of the election commission shall be supervisory and it shall not recommend anyone from amongst the qualified and valid nominees for a position.
  • Names of all the qualified candidates for each position on the Board of Directors shall be sent by mail to all the members of the Shura at least two weeks before the election day.
  • Candidates shall be allowed to withdraw their names from consideration for election at any time before the election.
  • Candidates shall be provided an opportunity to address the members of the Shura before the holding of the election.
  • No nominations may be entertained from the floor on the election day, until and unless there are no candidates for one or more positions. Nominations may then be opened only for those specific positions for which no candidates exist.
  • The election shall be by secret ballot.
  • Results of the election shall be formally announced on the floor as soon as the counting of the ballots is completed
