Ten days ago, we welcomed ten unaccompanied minors aged from 10 months to 17 years old, with three caregivers and their two children from an orphanage in Slavutych, Ukraine. After a long and dangerous journey they reached the safety of “Nisos” shelter operated in collaboration with Movement On The Ground. The creation of this safe and healing environment is yet another milestone in our mission to provide holistic, individualized care and child protection services for children fleeing war, conflict or persecution, in need of protection and support.

A group of boys living in our shelters participated at a special football tournament aiming to inspire and create awareness against poverty and socially marginalized vulnerable groups in the city of Athens. Thank you Shedia Street Paper for giving the chance to these boys to learn the value of team spirit, friendship, and respect both in sports and life.

Andrelly was a minor when she arrived in Greece and found a home in one of our shelters for unaccompanied girls and minor mothers with their babies. Today, as an adult, she has joined our team as a caregiver in one of our shelters. We are proud of her progress and how committed she is to listening and helping the girls in the shelter.

Our Child Protection Unit organized a workshop based on experiential training as part of the monthly capacity building for all staff members. Our staff had the opportunity to design and discuss activities promoting integration of children to the shelters and the local community. A big thank you to Iasis Amke for hosting the training and providing their spaces in Athens.

Partnerships

Moraitis School invited our youngest children from "Little Pugad" shelter to join their annual “Panigiri” at the school campus. Children, accompanied by our staff, had the opportunity to enjoy a day full of activities, engaging with sports, tasting delicious food and making new friends within the school community.

Teenage boys from our "Thiseas" shelter completed a computer literacy program and received their ECDL certificates. The lessons provided by Smart School and supported by one of our partners Movement On The Ground contributing to our efforts to provide children and youth opportunities to develop their skills and talents and become active and responsible citizens.

Activities

As part of their educational program, boys under our care spent an afternoon at The Benaki Museum, took the chance to admire important artifacts and get further knowledge on Greek history and culture.
