Buy Haringey

Buy Haringey logoBuyHaringey is a new online marketplace (website and mobile app) that offers businesses the opportunity to sell goods, services and events for free to over 250,000 Haringey residents.

The marketplace includes:

  • a free online ‘shop’
  • full transactional delivery and ‘click and collect’ facilities
  • promotion of businesses profiles and opportunity to market events across the borough
  • the option to use loyalty offers to attract local shoppers both in-person and online

The council has appointed digital placemaking experts bubltown to deliver this innovative new marketplace. Over the next month, members of their team will be visiting business premises across each town centre in the borough to increase awareness and provide information on the benefits of BuyHaringey.

Over the summer, you are also likely to see promotional materials, such as flyers, social media campaigns, and a high street presence with digital billboards and banners, designed to attract customers.

Haringey Cost Savings programme

Launched in February 2022, the Haringey Cost Savings programme (HCSP), is a service that offers free cost savings advice and support for small businesses based across Haringey.

The council has appointed business savings and support experts Place Support Partnership (PSP) to deliver the Haringey Cost Savings programme, which will help small business owners to survive and recover from the adverse impact of the pandemic.

This programme is funded as part of the Good Economy Recovery Plan and High Streets Recovery Action Plan (HSRAP). It will also support businesses to identify and realise savings when considering new contracts and choosing suppliers, and help businesses to navigate the current energy crisis and achieve best value on services.

A pilot scheme run in Tottenham last year identified a total of £85,401 in savings for businesses within 3 months, of which £38,812 has been assisted upon and realised. The average saving per quote generated £1,267.50 for each business.

Haringey Business Support Programme

Haringey Business Support Programme

The Haringey Business Support Programme offers free business advice and support services for Haringey businesses based in Tottenham, Wood Green, Turnpike Lane, and Green Lanes.

The programme, delivered by business support consultancy Hustle and Heels, provides free one-to-one advice and mentoring from a range of business experts who will advise on and support in the following areas:

  • launching and starting a new business
  • developing robust business plans to secure finance
  • sales and marketing including social media platforms
  • finance and financial management
  • Human Resources
  • trading and doing business online, including support to adopt cashless sales operations
  • advice and support to identify new customers
  • advice and support to improve business customer service skills
  • embedding formal management processes and systems

Evolve Haringey West

Businesses across the west of the borough (Crouch End, Highgate, Hornsey, Muswell Hill, Myddleton Road and Stroud Green Road) are continuing to benefit from the council’s Evolve Haringey West Programme.

Delivered by Hustle and Heels, the initiative offers local business owners’ advice and support on various aspects, including business and marketing plans, training, mentoring sessions, seminars, and workshops.

Asia Borrows, director of Cool Carrot in Highgate, said:

“Since joining the Evolve programme, we have really benefited from the initial 1-2-1 calls and have found support visits in the shop most helpful, especially when looking into my social media presence and advice on the look and feel of the shop. The signposts I received via email are also useful and I got value from the workshops and networking events that took place in April."

Disability Action Haringey 

Disability Action Haringey (DAH) is extending an invitation to local businesses and partner organisations to attend the launch of its Social Model for Disability (SMD) Ambassador Programme.

The event will take place on Wednesday 25 May (1pm to 3pm) at The Selby Centre Sports Hall, Selby Road, N17 8JL.

Disability Action Haringey is a pan-disability user-led organisation and registered charity. One of DAH’s key tasks is to strengthen the voice of Haringey’s D/deaf and disabled people and to embed the Social Model of Disability (SMD), thereby tackling the barriers to everyday life and improving access to universal services.

The SMD Ambassador Program seeks to generate and support a team of passionate community members, service providers and business representatives to spread the word about the Social Model for Disability across Haringey.

Ambassadors will spread the word and inspire people across all sectors and in all activities to help ensure the understanding and application of the SMD.

Ambassadors help us bring attention to the needs of the D/deaf and disabled community and demonstrate how DAH is working long-term across sectors to meet those needs, so that every resident can experience the fullness of life.

DAH offers its SMD Ambassadors:

  • training, support, and mentoring
  • invitations to relevant local events
  • work on social model co-production projects
  • build additional life + work experience skills
  • build a great new network of contacts
  • the opportunity to shape and embed the SMD across Haringey

Apprenticeship Levy Transfer support for Haringey businesses

Diverse group of people at workHaringey Council, in partnership with London Progression Collaboration are hosting a lunch and learn session to talk to business owners and recruitment managers in Haringey about the council's Apprenticeship Levy Transfer and the benefits to businesses.

There will also be an opportunity for creative businesses in Haringey to learn about the Amazon and Sony Pictures Entertainment Apprenticeship Levy Transfer.

Topics will include:

  • what is an Apprenticeship Levy Transfer?
  • how businesses can access
  • how to recruit an apprentice and support them to achieve in their job role

Hi Culture! logo - Are you a creative who lives or works around Tottenham High Road?

Kick start your creative idea

Hi CULTURE! is a series of key cultural activities supported by the council's High Streets Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) programme in Tottenham. It celebrates the local identity of Tottenham and includes research projects exploring the stories of local people, the hidden histories in Bruce Castle Museum’s archives, literature pop-up events, music, a walking trail, and various other community engagements.

As part of works undertaken, the consortium has an exciting opportunity to support artists, premises and promoters to present artistic works along Tottenham High Road this summer, and provide small grants of up to £1000 towards creators getting their idea kick-started.

Running a successful high street business

Reset. Restart is being delivered by the British Library’s Business and IP Centre and provides a programme of free webinars and support sessions, designed to help businesses overcome obstacles and thrive in the current climate.

If you run a business or charity based on the high street, then your pandemic experiences were even more challenging than for most; and the options ahead can remain hard.

If you are running a physical shop or service, there are specific logistical hurdles to continue to address and overcome, but the opportunities with a renewed focus on local communities, independent retailers and the new Class E planning classification all mean the positives do outweigh the negatives.

The session will focus on:

  • planning ahead with insights on high street trends
  • how to find the right location for your premises
  • how to focus on what and where is making you money
  • streamline options to adapt to low staffing and goods supply 
  • continuing to re-open and introduce new services.
