Linworth UMC welcomes Dr. Pranav Jani as he presents: "Forever Foreign and Exotic: Historical Roots of Anti-Asian Violence in the US”  Dr. Jani describes his presentation: "The horrific murders of six Asian American women in Atlanta in March 2021 raised national awareness about the presence of anti-Asian racism in the US during these pandemic years. But in a country that still finds it hard to grapple with its racist past, the historical roots of anti-Asian violence are often erased. This talk by Dr. Pranav Jani, the Program Director of Asian American Studies at Ohio State, explains that history in relationship to the legacies of slavery, colonialism, and imperialism."  You are invited to join us to listen and learn so that we may grow to be a more compassionate community for all people!

May is Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage (AAPI) month and all are invited to gather on zoom to learn more about the AAPI heritage and experience at the next Social Justice Speaker Event on May 18th at 7 p.m.!

Confirmation Class Mission
Habitat for Humanity Play House Project
The Confirmation students participated in the Habitat for Humanities Play House Faith Blitz on Saturday, April 30. They were one of five faith communities to design, paint, and construct a playhouse in six hours for local families.
The LUMC youth embraced their “Encanto” theme and the little girls who received the house where ecstatic. As the girls started immediately playing, the parents stated, “I don’t think they realize they get to take it home.”
The Playhouse Project is a unique opportunity that allows Habitat MidOhio to partner with organizations like LUMC, to build a playhouse for a local family in need—providing children with a safe place to play and imagine what home means to them. The Funds raised through this project go toward building new houses right here in Central Ohio.

2022 AEP Foundation House Build Coming Soon
The 2022 AEP Foundation house build has been assigned and we will be starting work onsite on or around June 6th. 1940 Genessee Ave, Columbus 43211 is the address.   This is two blocks EAST of Cleveland Ave, not on the west side of Cleveland as most of our recent builds have been.
We will be building a 4-bedroom Rachel model house (NO finished space in basement).   We are scheduling crews on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. I am sorry, but I do not have family information available to me at this time.
The site plan and site-specific building plans have been submitted for permitting.  The City of Columbus building department site shows that the plans have made it through all of the reviews and is sitting in “plan issuance” state.   So, we should have the approved permit within the next couple of days. Underground utilities and foundation work will proceed.
Please contact Jim Rosing at jrcnrosing@insight.rr.com for more information if you are interested in volunteering.
PRIDE June 11 Community Event
LUMC will be hosting a Story Telling Tent on June 11 at Bethel International UMC from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. We will be hosting some celebrity readers, offering "Your Story Matters" Journals and other LUMC goodies. You are invited to come to this community event to learn, to listen, and to worship.  Please contact Pastor Sara at pastorsara@linworthumc.org  (or Heather Webb, or Kelly Tamerlano) if you would like to learn more about attending or serving at this fun event.  Click here for more information on the Festival.

Verse of the Week:

"At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”  He called a child, whom he put among them, and said, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven."
Matthew 18:1-3
