The six-county Uplift Central Coast Coalition—led by the Economic Development Collaborative, REACH and Monterey Bay Economic Partnership (MBEP)—is excited to announce its continued partnership to develop an application and secure our region’s share of California’s new $600 million Community Economic Resilience Fund (CERF).

The six county region as defined by the state for the CERF program and funding includes Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito.

The purpose of CERF is to support new plans and strategies to diversify local economies and develop sustainable industries that create high-quality, broadly accessible jobs for all Californians.

The CERF strategy is based on triple bottom line principles and values— economy, equity and environment—and calls for input from and ultimate benefit to disadvantaged, disproportionately impacted and under-represented communities.

Moving forward, our Uplift Central Coast partnership will seek to secure a CERF planning grant of up to $5 million this fall, to support inclusive engagement and planning efforts to inform regional investment opportunities. The outcome of the planning will be to guide the development of a broad range of implementation projects in workforce and economic development—addressing a diversity of critical industry sectors and occupations—for the purpose of advancing broadly shared opportunity throughout the region.

If you would like to stay engaged, track progress, or participate with this coalition, join us! We encourage your interest and collaboration on this work. Please click here to register for continuing updates and opportunities to engage.

Cal Savers Retirement Program was created by state law to ensure California workers can save for retirement through automatic payroll contributions facilitated from their workplace.

Employers with 5 or more employees that do not sponsor a retirement plan, must register each eligible employee.  Your employee then has 30 days to opt in or out of the savings program- initially set to be a Roth IRA.  If they do not make a selection, they will be automatically enrolled in the program with a default savings rate of 5% of their gross pay.

A new employer portal for Cal Savers will open on May 25, 2022.
Compliance deadline is June 30, 2022.  Read details by clicking button below.

Melissa is a couture upholsterer and seamstress by trade who lives in the Santa Ynez Valley.

Melissa’s work, along with the pieces she buys, is imbued with a strong sense of story. She believes who makes it and how it is made are equally important to the object itself. An admitted travel junkie (56 countries and counting), she focuses on connecting with artisans worldwide so that she can tell their stories, preserve their traditions and empower people and communities who live on the margins.

So far, the days spent making vessels out of dirt with the Berber potters in Sejnane (Tunisia), sitting in the hut of a family of basket weavers in Bolgatanga (Ghana), working a waist loom at a women’s weaver cooperative near Lake Atitlan (Guatemala) and hanging out with a water buffalo and a group of 80-year-old female rice farmers in Vietnam after her scooter broke down, top the list, but the adventure continues.

While training and working in London, Melissa’s work appeared regularly in Vogue, Wallpaper, AD, and World Of Interiors. Her Brass Tack retail store in Laguna Beach was featured in Departures, Luxe Interior & Design, Orange Coast Magazine, Modern Luxury, Laguna Beach Magazine and named ‘Best OC Shop’ multiple years running.

Melissa has opened her newest venture, Brass Tack, a women's boutique, at 3551 and 3553 Sagunto Street in Santa Ynez.  Watch for an official ribbon cutting and her "hat bar" addition coming up soon!  Brass Tack is open Thursday to Monday 10:00am - 4:00pm in downtown Santa Ynez.  Be sure to stop in and say hello!

With California’s drive to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to 40% below 1990 levels by 2030, and with the federal government proposing regulations requiring SEC registrants and potentially all their suppliers anywhere in the value chain enhanced GHG reporting, the EconAlliance Energy Transition to Net Zero couldn’t be more timely!
