There was a total of twenty-six in attendance. Our MCA President introduced our guest speaker Dr. Matt McKean with The Orthopaedic Group, Mobile, Alabama. His topic: Foot and Ankle arthritis. He provided us with a great presentation and discussed the most common locations, types, and causes or ankle arthritis, conservative care treatment, as well as the signs and symptoms. He discussed the difference between bad ankle arthritis and mild ankle arthritis, and the loss of articular cartilages.
Dr. McKean further discussed that with conservative care treatment of the ankle arthritis, reduces the risk of having to have more evasive treatment of surgical options such as ankle joint arthroscope. Consistent activity modification will also help reduce ankle and joint arthritis, i.e., biking riding, rowing machine. He further discussed that with workers comp patients that have foot and ankle arthritis, the return-to-work time to modified duty is a good outcome and depends on the age, type of job performed, mechanism of injury, and with less recovery time depending on the type of injury and treatment. He discussed the difference between ankle joint arthritis and ankle joint replacement. Dr. McKean has performed over 130 ankle replacements in his field. He then opened the floor with Q&A’s.
There were great door prizes throughout the meeting.
Special thanks to our door prize sponsors.
