Hello everyone,

 

Further down the email see the results of   the April competition 'Harmony'  The winner recieves a £20 voucher

Some members of the Whatsapp Group are participating in May Madness. thos involves using a prompt generator to tell you a picture to draw or paint, you can do this daily, weekly or randomly through May . I have just realised I hadn't put this information in here earlier so apologies. If you want to have a go the link to the generator is here,

please ignore the adverts at the top. there is no charge to using the generator which is a little way down the page. If you want to join the whatsapp group for this bit of madness (some of the prompts are very surreal!) let me know your mobile number.

Pop UP Exhibitions and ? Plein Air Art Days

Jubilee Fayre - Bank Holiday Friday 3rd June, LB High Street 

Linslade Canal Festival - Saturday 30th July. Craft Tent , The Paddocks

We could also have some members painting / sketching outdoors during these events, and possibly meet up for picnic lunches.

Leighton Linslade Carnival on Saturday July 9th -'The Musicals' , \ float planning and making on Sunday 15th May - we plan to paint Posters from the Musicals, all materials provided. Please email or message Sally thereadsandpatches@gmail.com if you plan to come to the planning day. (just need idea of numbers)





The program of workshops and classes is on our website - there are a few more to be added towards the end of the year, but we are now taking bookings. If you are interested in attending please let us know,

May 10th  Trip to  Compton Verney to see the Portrait Artist of the Year exhibition. 

August New member Judy has offered to organise a trip to see the Hockney exhibition in Cambridge. Could you let me know if you are interested. More information to come. We may be able to combine this with the True to Nature Exhibition at the Fitzwilliam

7.45 - 10.00pm  Art Demonstration - Jean Turton - Chinese Brush painting

 

Jean will give a short talk on the  history of Chinese art and the major differences between it and Western art, and explain about our specific materials.

Jean then finishes the first part of her talk with a flower and bird composition, and for the second session paints a Chinese landscape.

Jean Turton has been a teacher of Chinese brush painting for over 15 years throughout the UK. She is very keen on flower painting and has taught in Berkshire for a number of years. Following a job change, she is now able to teach at longer, residential courses.

Jean served on the Chinese Brush Painting Society committee for a number of years, including holding the post of Chairman. She enjoys passing on her enthusiasm and love of the art to all. On the following Saturday 21st May Jean will be giving a workshop on Chinese Brush painting all welcome See more details here

Free to LBAS Members , non members welcome for the small fee of £6 on the door. This can be deducted from the membership fee if you join the society by the end of the month

Note some of the prices have changed since originally published (if you are in credit this will be sorted out at the class)

55Up events are supported by a grant from Leighton Linslade Town Council to encourage those who live in the Leighton Linslade area to  take part in activities they may not have done before. Hence these courses are aimed at those to whom the media  or type of activitity is new or has not been tried for several years. Please encourage friends and family to to engage with these venets if possible, they are a low cost way to take part in some great art classes.

 Zoom Art Together Day

 

 

Date -  Saturday 28th May 2022

Time - 10:00 - 16:00

Topic - 'Journeys'

 

Join us on Zoom, the invitation will be sent to members on the day before the event. All welcome, even if you don't want to join in with the art, come and join us for a coffee and chat. If you are new to our Art Together days, we meet 3 times 10am, 1pm amd 3,30. We also have a Whatsapp group where we share images of what we are working on. It is a fun day, suitable for all levelas and styles of work. If you don't wish to stick to this months theme, you don't have to. It is there as a bit of inspiration should you need it.

Sketchbook Pen Pal Group
We are ready to start the next round of sketchbooks. Many of you will have seen them at the exhibition. So now is the time! Message Tricia (email below) and join the next one. They are good fun, it is lovely having this little art gem drop through your door every 4 weeks or so. Be part of it!


This is well under way with several sketchbooks on their travels or completed. The completed sketchbooks are available to view on our website here. If you would like to join this project, or have already been involved and would like to be in another sketchbook, please let Tricia know, the next group can then be prepared (you may well be mixed with different artists). There are many new members who have not yet joined a sketchbook - do get in touch if you would like to have a go!
