The Best Advice My Mom Ever Gave Me

Appreciating the advice of our mothers as we look toward Mother's Day on Sunday, May 8, 2022...

"Remember that compassion goes a very long way. Do good things for others, not because you want something in return, but because you understand that life can be hard and that we all need help."

"One life hack that I learned from my mother was the importance of saving. She said even if it's $20 per week, just keep it for yourself and see how quickly it adds up."
- Patricia Mathias

"Growing up and even while still growing, my mother in my hardest moments would always say, 'The heights by great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, but they while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night.' When I was younger, I thought it was a random riddle, but now I understand."

"Growing up my mother would always remind me to not steal and always tell the truth."

A Tribute to Brother Javier Lozada
Javier is a consistent reminder to me of God's Grace in my time at New Life Church. There is not a moment I can remember where he hasn't beamed with joy and enthusiasm. Understanding his many challenges, Javi's example is a powerful testimony to me. It's not what we go through, but how we go through that testifies of our God. - Deacon Jeff Pamphile

Every interaction I have with Javier is one of great excitement. When I greet him he always has a bright smile and stretches out his hand to give me a pound saying the words, “Elder Wallace!" His energy is contagious, and I always leave his presence feeling happy. - Elder Dirk Wallace

Javier is an encouragement to me and the New Life Church family. Every time he enters the building he makes sure he greets everyone within his vicinity with a fist bump, peace sign, or an occasional kiss depending on who you are. I love his cheers, laugh and contagious enthusiasm. - Deacon Eben Dente

Javier, the energetic bunny, the sunshine of the family. I am so grateful to be a part of your life. I enjoyed every moment of watching you grow into a man! You’re forever family it’s never a goodbye but see you later I love you. - Aunty Edwina

I have been encouraged and blessed through Javier’s life, he is a very smart brother, and is fully aware of what’s happening around him. Although he sometimes have bad days, he most of the time presents a countenance of contentment, always smiling wanting to let you know what’s happening. He let me know when his grandmother passed and he wanted prayer. He let me know when he won a bowling game, and when he was not well and wanted me to pray. Lately, I have been seeing him every day. He announces my presence when he hears a knock on the door. He is such an encouragement and fun to be around. He has given me a new understanding of the scripture, “My grace is sufficient for you.” - Deacon James McCrumada

Javier is a reminder that there is no excuse to lose one's joy and enthusiasm for our Savior Jesus Christ. I have NEVER seen him feel sorry for himself, but I've ALWAYS seen him GIVE GOD THE GLORY. Javier is my guy; every time we do our special handshake, it gives me life! - Elder Jermaine Curtis

There are some people who make the world a better place just by being in it. Javier, you are one of those people. We Love you and thank God for you! - Your New Life Church Family

What is your favorite Sunday School Memory?
Teacher Appreciation Week starts on May 2. We appreciate the time and energy all our Sunday School teachers have put in, down through the years, teaching the children and adults classes. Thank you for all your hard work, time commitment, and planning. We look forward to resuming classes in the summer.

"One of my favorite moments in Sunday School was the lesson about managing money. We were taught how to save and divide our finances. It helped me to understand, as a young adult, how to manage money the right way, and to be prepared for the outside world."
By Sister Jinya Alieu

"I loved the look on the kindergarteners' faces when they recited a scripture without any help! Biggest of smiles."
By Sister Destani McCrumada

"Some of my favorite Sunday School classes were when all the classes would come together to test our Bible knowledge through games. It was great to see all the classes integrated together, playing Bible Jeopardy, learning together and sharing out what they knew. "
By Mother Mary Holman

"Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6
