Board of Managers Vacancy

The Riley Purgatory Bluff Creek Watershed District is seeking candidates for 2 Hennepin County appointed seats on our Board of Managers. The five-member Board of Managers sets policy for the Riley Purgatory Bluff Creek Watershed District, and is made up of 4 representatives appointed by Hennepin County and 1 by Carver County. Candidates for the seats must be residents of Hennepin County and live within the district. Board of Managers meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month.

Learn About the District
Established on July 31, 1969 by Watershed Act, Chapter.112, to carry out conservation of natural resources through land utilization, flood control and other needs based upon sound scientific principles for the protection of the public health and welfare and the provident use of natural resources. The Riley Purgatory Bluff Creek Watershed District provides for the management of the water and related land resources within its boundaries.

One of the most important responsibilities of the Watershed District is the preparation and implementation of a Plan for the management of the water and related land resources of the District. Project plans of private developers, the state, counties and cities must be submitted to the Watershed District Managers for review and approval. The District issues permits in order to protect the water and related land resources.

To apply, first ensure you live within the boundaries of the Riley Purgatory Bluff Creek Watershed District and are a resident of Hennepin County. A manager may not be a public officer of the County, State or federal government. Because of the nature of the Board, it is helpful to have managers who have a background in water conservation, development, law, engineering, environment, administration, etc.  The deadline to apply is May 31 at 5:00 p.m.

Applications can be submitted online through Hennepin County. If eligible, you will be invited to provide a pre-recorded interview statement to be played for the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners during a scheduled committee or board meeting. You will have three minutes to introduce yourself and talk about why you're interested in the position.
