What My Stepdad Taught Me About Money...
My clients often tell me that their parents didn't teach them anything about money.
They mean that their parents didn't teach them and formally explain complex topics about finances. But whether you realize it or not, your parents taught you a lot about money.
For example, my stepdad is a good guy. But he is what we like to refer to as "cheap." And that taught me the value of saving money early on. Then, when I was a teenager, I started working and needed a car.
He helped me buy a car, put it on his line of credit, and arranged that I make regular payment amounts on it. But here's the thing: He insisted I payoff more when I could afford to. These actions resulted in me paying off the whole car in five months. I quickly learned the value of paying off debt fast and not having it hanging over my head.
There are countless times when I have had conversations with clients about debt and how it has hurt them. That's one of the reasons why I've made it a mission to help people with their finances...
