On May 19th, the International Museum of Surgical Science was filled to the brim with generous guests and sponsors supporting Literacy Chicago and its mission to empower adults through education.
A moving speech made by Maudlyne Ihejirika highlighted the devastation war can have on a family, but how ultimately optimism, resilience, and a love of reading can bring it back together.
Our Secretary of State Award winners Betty Hurder (volunteer tutor) and Krystil Clemons (student) spoke about their positive experiences with Literacy Chicago and how their lives have changed for the better.
As guests searched for the answers to a museum-themed scavenger hunt, sipped on the evening’s signature Great Escape cocktail, and bid on auction items, the Tim Fitzgerald Quartet filled the air with notes of jazz and blues.
Special thanks to our sponsors for the evening and to all those who attended and supported us for our annual gala. Check out our one-minute video to get a taste of how Literacy Chicago Celebrates the Love of Literacy!
