Talent Show Success

Bravo, Students!
We were wowed by our amazing students and Music program as our first in-person Talent Show since 2019 was held on Thursday! We saw talent and bravery on display, and lots of support from our audience. It's a joy to watch children confident, taking risks and pushing themselves in our small, supportive community. Thank you to the Music teachers, Anja and Jason, for organizing this event.
The Gardner School is a finalist in THREE categories for Best of Clark County 2022! Please continue voting and share with your friends on social media. Voting ends on June 14th and we want to show Clark County more about what makes the Gardner School the best childcare, preschool, and school in the area! We need our community's help to win!

Don't Forget- Gardner Market this Friday

Students have shared some fun plans for their booths, and they are getting ready to display their wares at 1:30 on Friday, June 3rd. Parents and community supporters are encouraged to attend! We know many families are supporting their children in completing their Gardner market plans this week. Reach out to your child's Homeroom teacher if you have any questions!

Parent Support Reminders
Vendor Booth Materials

Your child can bring in their materials for the Market at drop off, and they should have all their advertising and products ready to go. Tables will be set up during the day and students will be supported in arranging their table before the shopping begins.

Parent Support Reminders
Preparing to Shop

Each child is able to bring $15 to shop if they like, and we encourage them to bring dollar bills in a clearly labeled envelope or purse. Children will be shopping independently, and each will be given a bag to collect any purchases they choose to make. Just window shopping is appropriate, too, if you and your child prefer!

Safety Procedures
In light of last week's tragic news out of Texas, we wanted to share a few of the safety measures we have in place at the Gardner School.

Our staff has been trained by a Clark County Sheriff's Office deputy in the latest best practices for responding to an intruder on campus. The Run, Hide, Fight protocol was adopted as the safest response. We will bring back this training for our staff during our August 2022 in-services.

After our consultation with the deputy, we changed our fire drill procedures to evacuate to the Smith Root campus. This collaboration with Smith Root was established for regular practicing drills, and they are prepared to assist us in case of an emergency. We do not call any drill "active shooter drill." We approach all drills with calm and teach children that we might need to evacuate the buildings for a variety of reasons. In any event, they are to stop what they are doing, listen to their teachers directions, and usually they will need to evacuate. We practice the evacuation routes monthly and walk towards Smith Root.

Our admin team has a response protocol in place for communicating with staff. For concerns in the area, but not on campus, we secure all doors and keep children and staff inside until safe to resume regular activities. During these "lock in" drills, students and teachers continue their activities, but with doors locked and window shades closed.

Additionally, we are reviewing other upgrades to our security for the building and will have them in place for the 22-23 school year.

The focus for our school is on training the staff to respond quickly to any situation, with age-appropriate explanations for our students. We aim to minimize the emotional impact trainings can have on young students, focusing on the message that they are safe, and that the adults are prepared to support them.
Gardner School Covid-19 Dashboard
Keeping all of our students in school depends on our families following the requests below for screening for symptoms.

1. In the last 72 hours, has your child had one or more of the following symptoms: fever > 100.4 F, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, chills, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea and/or vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of smell/taste?

2. Has your child been in close contact with anyone with confirmed COVID-19 or has a public health or medical professional told your child to self isolate or self-quarantine because of concerns about COVID-19 infection?

3. If any of the answers to these questions are yes, have you emailed health@gardnerschool.org and been cleared to be on campus? If not, please remain off campus until cleared.
