  • There was a car chase from Nicasio Valley Rd. onto Rt. 1, through Stinson Beach and ending with a crash in Muir Beach on Wednesday morning. (MarinIJ with paywall)
  • No new vacation rentals will be allowed in West Marin for up to two years under emergency rules adopted Tuesday by the Marin County Board of Supervisors. The moratorium, adopted in a unanimous vote by the board, aims to address the shortage of housing in the area. The rules took effect at 5 p.m. Tuesday. (MarinIJ with paywall)

  • A Memorial Day weekend 15-minute commemorative ceremony starts at 10 a.m. at the Historic Life-Saving Service Cemetery at G Ranch, in the Point Reyes National Seashore. Information at www.nps.gov/pore/planyourvisit/calendar.htm.
  • Free Covid-19 rapid take-home tests are available for pickup for people who live or work in West Marin from 1 to 2 p.m. on Fridays at West Marin Community Services. 
  • Free Covid-19 rapid take-home tests also available at the Inverness Fire Department from 9am - 4pm, Monday through Friday. Call first: 415 669 7151
  • Danny Montana plays a happy hour show at 5 p.m. at the Papermill Creek Saloon, in Forest Knolls. No cover. Then, Sam Grisman and Friends, featuring Ric Robertson and Logan Ledger, play at 8:30 p.m. Full vaccination required.
  • Desiree Cannon and Kacie Hill play at 6 p.m. outdoors at Smiley’s Schooner Saloon, in Bolinas. $10 tickets at www.smileyssaloon.com

Saturday

  • The Point Reyes Open Studios starts today and continues through Monday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the studios of 16 artists throughout Point Reyes Station, Inverness Park and Inverness. Information and a map are available at www.pointreyesart.com and at local shops. 
  • A gathering and walk on the Coast and Laguna Trails with Obi Kaufman to celebrate the release of “The Coasts of California” starts at 11 a.m. at the Clem Miller Environmental Education Center, in the Point Reyes National Seashore. Presented by Point Reyes Books and the Point Reyes National Seashore Association. $100 includes a copy of the book. Register at www.ptreyesbooks.com.
  • Gallery Route One’s members’ exhibition, “Opening Up/Looking Forward,” opens today with a reception from 3 to 5 p.m. and artist talks beginning at 3:30 p.m. Gallery hours are Thursday through Monday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The exhibit shows through July 3. Information at www.galleryrouteone.org

  • A community healing pop-up takes place from noon to 4 p.m. on the green in front of Abalone Apothecary (65 Third St.), in Point Reyes Station. Low-cost, sliding-scale acupuncture, tongue and pulse diagnosis and treatment offered on a first-come, first-served basis. 
  • The Bolinas Community Land Trust’s Spring Fling takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. at Mesa Park, in Bolinas. Featuring music by the Coastal Scrubbers, barbecue, pony rides, face painting, a bouncy house and more. 
  • The 48th Annual Muir Beach Volunteer Firemen’s Barbecue features food, drink and live music from noon to 5 p.m. at Santos Meadows, on Frank Valley Road. Parking is $30 per vehicle; carpooling encouraged, with a suggested $10 donation for walk-in and bike-in attendees. Proceeds benefit the Muir Beach Volunteer Fire Department.   • Elvin Bishop and his Big Fun Trio play blues with Terry Hanck and Kid Andersen at 4 p.m. for the opening day of Rancho Nicasio’s Barbecue on the Lawn series. $40. Reservations required at www.ranchonicasio.com
