Charge up and join us for the opening celebrations for New Energy on Saturday 4 June 2022, 2pm - 5pm at 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art

In this early-career survey, the first for 4A since 2015, curator Con Gerakaris brings together artists who imbue their creative methods with fresh perspectives and new ideas resonating with contemporary societal discourse. With a national focus, New Energy celebrates the depth of our artistic community, presenting the work of nine emerging artists: Kalanjay Dhir, Audrey Newton, Jonathan Kim, EJ Son, Luce Nguyễn-Hunt, Angie Pai, Zoe Wong, Nadia Refaei, Nathan Nhan.

Showcasing installation, ceramics, video photography and more, New Energy encourages evolving practices through cross-cultural and interdisciplinary dialogues, with musings on intimate imagined realities alongside public displays of affection. These artists navigate traditional aesthetics by twisting the symbols and cultural touchstones through a contemporary globalised lens.

Start your Sunday at 4A with intimate and informative talks from visiting interstate artists. Jonathan Kim, Luce Nguyễn-Hunt, Nathan Nhan, Angie Pai and Nadia Refaei will walk you through their artworks exhibited in New Energy at 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art. Audiences will be given the opportunity to learn about each artist’s influences, concepts and methods of creating. This talk is hosted by exhibition curator and 4A Curatorial Program Manager Con Gerakaris.

4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art is open Tuesdays - Sundays from 11am - 5pm. On Thursdays, we stay open until 8pm. 4A is centrally located in Sydney's bustling Chinatown precinct. Plan your visit today:

 By train: 4A is a 5-minute walk from Central Station. Exit at Eddy Avenue and walk across Belmore Park.
 By light rail: 4A is next to Capitol Square stop or a 2-minute walk from the Haymarket and Chinatown stops on L2 and L3 lines.
 By bus: 4A is located within walking distance to Pitt St near Campbell St (2-minutes walk), Hay St near Pitt St (2-minutes walk) and Pitt St near Eddy Avenue (5-minutes walk).
 By bicycle: Park and lock your bicycle at any of the bike racks on Pitt St or Campbell St nearby.
