Mark LeBlanc, Director of the Canadian Hydrographic Service, Pacific Region
The Canadian Hydrographic Service is transforming our services. We want to be safer and more efficient and offer the best products we can for all mariners.
Our digital products will support safe navigation through improved vector based Electronic Navigation Charts, digital publications, and paper charts updated through a subscription service.
We will also deliver real time tide and current information available direct to the user.
Mark will be happy to answer all your questions and gather feedback to ensure CHS products and services meet the needs of all mariners. Mark has been Director of the Pacific Region since 2020 and was previously Manager of Navigation Products to Services. Mark is also a professional mariner having served in the Royal Canadian Navy for 10 years.

Merit Marks
Finally, after 2 years, we have been able to enter and thus award Merit Marks. A member is awarded a merit mark when they have contributed more that 20 volunteer hours in a given year.
The following people received Merit Marks for the 2019-2020 year and/or the 2020-2021 year. The number of years each has been volunteering is also listed.
Congratulations to all of you and thank you for your continuing commitment and generous support.
Let’s also not forget that there are many other people who volunteer their time for various Squadron activities but who do not reach the number of hours for a merit mark. We are also very thankful for their help and support.
In the words of Winston Churchill, “We make a living by what we do, but we make a life by what we give.

BRIDGE POSITIONS OPEN! SEEKING VOLUNTEERS!
As Elizabeth mentioned in her Commander's Report, our AGM and Change of Watch are happening on May 16th. Though most Bridge members will remain in their positions, there are many positions that are open, such as:
Commander
Executive Officer
Education Officer
Assistant Education Officer
Masthead Editor
Programs Officer
Volunteering can be fun, a great way to meet people and an opportunity to learn new skills.
Please consider volunteering for any of the above-mentioned positions.
Please contact any current Bridge member to let them know that you are interested in keeping Vancouver Squadron strong and vibrant in the years ahead.

Do you have any Stories?
...that you'd like to share?
If you feel the urge to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard, as the case may be), and have a story you'd like to share with fellow members, we'd like to read it!
Funny stories, lesson-learned stories, great cruising stories, you-won't-believe-what-happened stories...
Please send any short masterpieces to pro@vpsboat.org and we'll try to include them in the Masthead when we have space.
Happy writing... and boating!

Membership Renewal
A reminder to members to renew your membership!
In order to renew, you must log into the cps-ecp website. If you have forgotten your password, you can create a new one. If you no longer use the email with which you made your profile, you will need to contact Moe to forward to National. For security reasons, only the member can change their email. If you forgot or ‘gave up’ last year when trying to renew your membership on the new system, you will not be penalized. Just pay and renew for 2022 and you will be ‘good to go’ for the year. Another note, the system is very fussy, and every box must be filled in order for you to proceed. I know that, for some members, renewing has been a frustrating experience, but it is getting easier all the time as the various glitches are being found and worked out.
Remember that the ‘head of the household’ renews for the entire household. Lifetime members must still renew at 0.00. Any questions? Any problems? Ask our membership officer, Moe Forrestal smo-vancouver@cps-ecp.org
