The Joy of Moving
Dear Reader,
It all started when I was a student. Whenever I had a difficult physics problem to solve, I would try and solve it, and then go for a long run. As I'm running my subconscious would work it out and when I came back, I would often be able to solve the issue.
I realize not everyone wants to run, or are there for daily exercise, but I found throughout my life, whenever I have daily exercise, whenever I'm moving my body every day, I'm more productive, more joyful. It's easier to get through life.
Recently, as I was recovering from COVID, and it was a nasty bout of COVID, I started getting better the moment I could get to a place where I could get myself to move again and not just lie there or just sit there in my misery.
In a discussion with a family member, who was going through a bout of depression at the time, we discussed this as well. He's got a dog, so we worked on it, so that whenever the dog comes to him, because the dog is concerned for him, I wanted him to think about what the dog wants. If the dog wants a walk, so that his mind is off his own misery, to take the dog for a walk, even if it's just a small walk. To do that every time the dog comes to him, to move him out of this place of immobility and despair, and it really worked for him as well.
So whenever you're in a difficult place, whenever you need to solve a problem in your life, whatever the case may be, I would recommend to get some movement into your body. Get the blood to flow, let it reach your brain, let it percolate. It may be a run, it may be a walk, it may be a cycle, anything - just get out there and do it. You'll find the moment that blood flows, the moment your brain clears, you'll be able to solve problems so much easier, and it'll lift your spirits and you'll find joy.
