CCHS Newsletter 60 - 13th June 2022
Message from Executive Headteacher
This week I shared some sad and upsetting news with our staff about  Mrs Reynolds.  Mrs Reynolds, being Mrs Reynolds, was very keen to ensure that she had the chance to connect with students and share her news in very much her own way.  This is her message:

"I hope that you are all well. During the Easter holidays I received some bad news as I was diagnosed with cancer. I’ve had quite a long wait for my operation, so if you have said I looked tired or thought I was a bit different from normal then hopefully you will now understand why. In the meantime I’ve tried very hard to get you all as close to the exams as possible. During the half term holidays I have had my operation and have come home to rest for a long time before my treatment starts. I’ve very much enjoyed teaching you all this year and I look forward to seeing you all again when I am well enough to return."

We are a family at Codsall High School, and families look out for each other.  I know of staff, students and parents who will have all been affected by cancer in one way or another.  We are always here if anyone, at any point, needs someone to talk to or be with.

Take care of yourselves.

Y10 RAF Museum Cosford - Employability Skills Day
All our Year 10 students will be taking part in our Employability Skills Day on Wednesday 6th July.  This event will be held at RAF Museum Cosford where students will work their way through eight employability skills workshops.  Students have been prepared for this event through Tutor Group sessions and assemblies, and it is a great confidence and soft skills building day.

All the students will take part in a mock interview with volunteers from local companies, colleges, universities etc.  We have over 60 volunteers who have come on board to support this event and without their support we would be unable to provide this fabulous day.
Work Experience
  • Year 10:    27th June - 1st July
  • Year 12:   4th July - 8th July
This is the first time students have taken part in work experience since the pandemic.  Despite experiencing post pandemic issues around companies not accepting students for placements, an overwhelming number of students have been successful.
This is thanks to the tenacity of students, parents and Mrs Alexiou, our Work Experience Coordinator.
County Athletics
As a result of their successful performances in the Cannock Schools Competitions which took place at Aldersley recently, eleven of our students were selected for the Cannock and District Athletics team to take part in the County Championships at the weekend.
The students are:
              Quai Q               Stan S                Louie S                 Ben A
              Theo P               Hayden H           Liv G                    Ella G
              Ruby W              Freya H              Amelia H
Football Academy Triumph
Our Football Academy went on tour to the USA for 12 days in May, participating in the Needham Memorial Day Tournament.  We have entered this tournament every year since 2009 and have been successful on five previous occasions. This year we went one better!  We won two tournaments in the u19 category, which in itself is an achievement as most boys were playing up two age groups.
Over one thousand teams participate in the Needham Memorial Day tournament on an annual basis across the age group categories, making it the largest youth soccer tournament in the world.

In total they played eleven games, completing the tournament on Monday 30th May with four consecutive elimination games in temperatures exceeding 100'f.

The boys played exceptionally well throughout the tournament, losing only one game (group stages) and as a result will no doubt have plenty of offers to attend university on soccer scholarships next year.

Well done lads!
At the end of May we sadly said Goodbye to:

Mrs Croxall - one of our Pastoral Managers - who left us after 16 years - for a complete career change.

Mrs Barker - Geography teacher and Head of Challenger House - who left us after almost three years to  move back to her home town.

Parents claiming some benefits can claim free school meals for any of their children who are registered at a Staffordshire school and who would normally be at school at lunch time. School meals are a good way to ensure that your child eats well at lunchtime and you can save yourself time and money.

Even if you don't want your children to have the meals, claiming them helps their school. The more eligible parents who claim meals, the more funding the school receives.

The phone number for the free school entitlement checking service team has changed.  Should you need to contact them regarding any claims queries, their number is now 0300 111 8007  option 3, then option 2
