From the Executive Director

Hello and Goodbye SHPA Families!

Thank you for making the last eleven years here at Seven Hills so enriching and fulfilling for me. Your encouragement and confidence as well as your honest and constructive feedback helped make me a better leader in service to this truly special school. I am grateful to all of you for making our Democratic Classicist model such an exceptional one in which children (and adults!) can learn and grow in a lifelong pursuit of a hard-earned wisdom, becoming stronger citizens, becoming who they are.

The future holds much promise. At the end of a week that marked the second anniversary of the murder of George Floyd, that followed the tragic shooting in Buffalo, and then the unspeakable heartbreak in Texas...Our hearts are heavy reflecting on so many innocent lives lost, but still we turn back to the vital work of education, and we remain hopeful. Together we are committed to fostering a school community that is safe and supportive, inclusive and equitable, respectful and compassionate. And we will continue to cultivate a place for students to find their joy, as they return each morning, sleepy or smiling, entrusted to our care, breathing life back into our buildings, reminding us all why we are here.

Enjoy the long holiday weekend and upcoming summer--and thank you again for what you do,

Sincerely,

Carl Schlueter
Executive Director

COVID-19 Update: We have been experiencing a ripple in positive cases recently, so please remember to symptom-screen your child(ren) before school and self-test at home for free if you are experiencing symptoms. For additional COVID-19 information, please continue to visit our COVID-19 webpage where you will find various resources and links including health-screening, testing options, and reduced isolation guidelines under the planning and resources tabs. Thank you for continuing to help keep our students and staff healthy and learning and working in school.

Help Build Our Libraries: We are excited to announce an opportunity for you to help our libraries grow!  We have 2 libraries at the Richfield Campus: an Elementary and a Middle School Library. When we first opened, we gratefully received hundreds of donated books to help us fill our shelves. We have now reached a point where we have a great base of books and are strategically building the collections largely from student requests and new releases. The kids love requesting their favorite books and new releases that they are excited to read. They flock to the new book displays and ask weekly if their requested books have arrived. Now we are inviting you to be part of that process by donating the specific books that our students are eager to read. We keep running request lists on Amazon. You can buy them there or you can get them from your favorite, local bookstore. We love being part of fostering your student’s love of reading and are happy to offer this opportunity to support our libraries. Thank you!

Nystrom & Associates School-Based Therapy: School-Based therapy is a convenient way to provide mental health therapy to students. It removes barriers such as transportation and scheduling difficulties which often stands in the way of students receiving therapy. It also allows for students to work with therapists directly in the environment in which they often struggle the most; in school. Our therapists can provide individual therapy, assessments and referrals for additional services. In addition, there is the possibility of seeing the child and the family outside of regular school hours.

If you have any questions about School-Based Therapy at Seven Hills Prep Academy, please contact  School counselors: Brittany Keating brkeating@shpamn.org or Mende Symington msymington@shpamn.org at the Richfield Campus or Karissa Larson klarson@shpamn.org at the Bloomington Campus.

School Website: Please use our current website,
www.sevenhillspreparatoryacademy.org to read about many aspects of our school life, including schedules, events, and updates. This is the most important resource for our community. Our goal is to keep open, consistent and detailed communication with everyone and we update the website information regularly.

PTA

June PTA Meeting: Thanks to those who joined us for our May PTA meeting at the Richfield Campus. It was great to see so many friendly faces! Our May meeting minutes are linked here, and our next meeting is set for Monday June 13 in person at the Bloomington campus. We'll socialize with some light snacks at 5:00 p.m., and the meeting begins at 5:30 p.m.. The meeting will end no later than 7:00 p.m., and all are welcome to join the meeting, whether or not you've formalized your PTA Membership.

June Dine to Donate: Thanks to those who joined us at Jersey Mike's this past Tuesday to enjoy best in class food and support our school! We'll share results shortly, knowing that 50% of all restaurant sales that day will be donated to our awesome school. On June 14, we'll be dining together at the
Culvers in Bloomington. Watch for details via email and social media, and see you there!

June Park Play Day: Thanks to our Kindergarten and First Grade families who joined us for our first Park Play Day this past Saturday at the Bloomington campus playground!  Our next Park Play Day is scheduled for Tuesday evening, June 14 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Whether you're enrolled at the SHPA Bloomington campus, or the SHPA Richfield campus, all Kindergarten and First Grade families are welcome to join. You'll meet incoming Kindergarten families while connecting with existing Kindergarten and First Grade SHPA families. Come play with our newest SHPA families and have fun at the Bloomington campus playground!

School Supplies for Next Year:  SHPA families can choose to shop independently for next year's school supplies, OR order a school supply kit online through the PTA. School supply lists for all grades are now simplified and common across both campuses, which lets the PTA offer each kit at a significantly lower price than past years. Kits no longer include general classroom supplies such as paper towels or tissues -- those will be shipped separately to each campus -- AND and the PTA has negotiated free shipping for kits to be sent directly to a family's home prior to the start of school next year. We're thrilled to offer this convenient, cost effective option for your child's school supplies! The secure online ordering link is available NOW through July 15
To order, follow these steps:
  1. Go to www.educationalproducts.com/shoppacks
  2. Richfield Campus: Enter the school ID as SHP000 (3 letters, and 3 numbers).
  3. Bloomington Campus: Enter the school ID as SEV045 (3 letters, and 3 numbers).
  4. Follow the directions to complete your order.
  5. Keep your online confirmation as your receipt.
Keep in mind that sales tax will be applied at checkout. Remember that each kit will be shipped to your home. Do not enter the school address as your shipping address. Lastly, once you receive the kits at your home, you may choose to bring kits to Back to School Night in August, or fit the supplies into your child’s backpack to bring on the first day of school. Thank you for supporting the SHPA PTA! For those families choosing to shop for school supplies instead, the updated school supply lists will be posted to the SHPA website soon.

Used Uniform Donations and Sale: Has your child outgrown their uniforms? Would you like to clear out space in the closets? We are accepting donations of your gently used uniforms now through the end of the school year. Donations should be free of rips and stains. You can drop off donations at the main office of either campus. The PTA will host a used uniform sale later this summer at the SHPA Richfield campus! Watch for specifics later this summer

Online Family Directory: Have you joined the Online Family Directory yet? Register or update your family information
here, and you'll automatically receive email communication from the PTA. You can also decide whether to make your contact information public for easy connection to other Seven Hills families. Instructions for how to join the directory are linked here.

Participate! Are you interested in participating in the PTA? There are three main ways to do so! Check out the details here.
